  1. Autistic people don’t just ‘fail to fit’ into social norms and into the social order.

It seems quite a lot of the time we actually challenge the social order - often even just by existing.

  3. Schools and algorithms share a failure mode.
    They optimize for the median.
They flag the outlier as a problem.
Edison's teacher called him "addled." 1,093 patents.
Darwin's father said he'd be a disgrace. Changed biology forever.
Temple Grandin was told she'd never amount to anything. Revolutionized animal science.
The institution didn't fail to find them.
The person who doesn't fit gets filtered out.
    The pattern isn't neutral.
It's just the median with authority.

  5. This Is What Building Looks Like

Building doesn't feel like progress from the inside. There's no finish line. No moment where everything clicks. Just a quiet morning where you read something from six weeks ago and realise the effort level has dropped while the quality of the thing has held. That's what it looks like.

  11. Focus is a useful thing. A practical thing.

But it has nothing to do with your worth as a human being.

  16. Re: Who Knows That You Blog?: taonaw.com/2026/05/13/re-who-k

I have a nuanced answer for this. I share personal topics while trying to balance privacy, and I’m open to discussions about my life. How do you feel about this?

  17. Join us tomorrow (May 13th), on PDA Day, for a global community event by PDA North America!

This is a day dedicated to increasing understanding, fostering support, and sharing practical strategies for living with PDA. Speaker topics range from what pre-burnout looks like to "unlearning" authority.

I'll be speaking at 11:15 am on PDAers transitioning to adulthood!

  18. The brain is not a barcode scanner.

Psychiatric biomarkers alone may never explain the complexity of human suffering because people are adaptive systems, not static machines.

  20. #UK #autists — I've been trying to get my GP to let me sidestep some of their rigid and inflexible 'triage' process. No luck so far, despite the Equalities Act 2010.

    Any hints?

  24. Here's a hard truth. Even when things were at their hardest — I was surviving. I was making it.

Not always well. Not in any way I liked. But I was doing it.

Which meant I could do it. Which meant I could keep doing it. 1/2

  30. So, I'm running an informal survey about #LARP and #neurodiversity, with a focus on #autism and #ADHD, because I'm super curious about the intersections as an #AuDHD larper. Anyone can fill it out, and anyone can see the results: forms.gle/GHCQFuZbf9FpDCg1A

  35. I was struggling yesterday to recover an old Apple ID, and was reminded again how much my dyslexia makes many security systems hell. I can't type passwords into the blind accurately, many arbitrary "strong password" rules are difficult for me to parse, and remembering strings of numbers or characters, even for a few seconds, can sometimes be challenging to impossible.

  36. Some misconceptions about #neurodiversity
She must have ADHD or something: I know a thing or two about IT and this is why I appear impatient with some discussions
She is a perfectionist: I want things to be done enough so that I can move on without revisiting them soon
She is autistic: yes but sometimes it's really necessary to say things unambiguously and pithy so that people get the point
She got triggered: sometimes my experiences trigger anxiety and depression, but now I'm just emotional

  37. When the Old Version of You Pulls Back

Progress has a pull in both directions. The better things start going, the harder the pull back towards old patterns tends to be. This isn't failure. It's not proof the work doesn't work. It's the oldest version of you reasserting itself. And it deserves a proper response.
