A Look Back at Wolverine #50 (1992)

Welcome back, superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts, X-Men fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Marvel Comics universe to examine one of the many tales of the Wolverine monthly series.  

Before I start the review, I have to say out loud that the very woke and shameless game developer Insomniac Games ruined the superhero icon in the new Wolverine game on PlayStation 5. They inserted woke and homosexual elements into the game. That said, Insomniac Games never intended to make a Wolverine game that was fun and accurate to the source material. I urge you fans of X-Men and Wolverine to BOYCOTT the Wolverine PlayStation 5 video game!

Times like these, it is best to go back to reading the comic books published from the 1970s to the 1990s that featured Wolverine.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Wolverine #50, published by Marvel Comics in 1992 with a story written by Larry Hama and drawn by Marc Silverstri.

Early story

The story begins with Wolverine forcibly going up a New York City skyscraper with his motorcycle. It turns out that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Helicarrier is secretly floating by the top of the building and Wolverine – who caused a lot of disturbance along the way – used his motorcycle to leave on to the floating structure. Wolverine crashes through the Helicarrier’s window and makes his way to Colonel Nick Fury. Wolverine tells him that he is aware about El Tigre and Emilio Garra’s activities in Cuba and he wants him to hand over his security dossier.

Minutes after Fury makes a call to secure the dossier, pawns of Hydra inside a building nearby gets alerted and retrieves from the National Security Agency (NSA) files of S.H.I.E.L.D. that have not been pulled in over twenty years.

The next day in Washington, D.C., Wolverine arrives at the office of the Department of Agriculture wanting to talk to Professor Thornton who is behind the closed door of his office…

Quality

The best way to describe this particular story of Wolverine is that it is a mystery and suspense tale (with a touch of political intrigue) told in the form of a superhero tale. More notably, this one reconnects to Wolverine’s past with Weapon X and it strong emphasizes the sinister nature of Weapon X and how is ruined the memories and lives of its living objects (including Wolverine and Silver Fox).

As many fans are already aware, it was during the Weapon X project when Logan was held against his will, got heavily experimented on and had Adamantium installed into his skeleton (note: the sharp Adamantium claws were installed on Logan).

In this comic book, Larry Hama went further with the mysteries by focusing on the memories Wolverine remembers and how the people behind Weapon X cleverly staged scenes (complete with physical sets, props and movie cameras) and implanted false memories into their minds by having neuro-synthetic implants placed in the cerebral vortex.

That said, this comic book explores moments from Wolverine’s past which will challenge readers to think if such moments are real or somehow fabricated. Considering Wolverine’s legacy as an aged superhuman who could not figure out his own personal history, this tale offers readers a cerebral reading experience that is truly one of a kind.   

Of course, this comic book would not be complete with action scenes of the icon. Wolverine’s battle with Shiva is indeed action-packed and Marc Silvestri’s art style made it look dynamic and gritty at the same time. I should state that the action did not happen in a random fashion. Instead, the action happened within the context of the story complete with moments of intrigue and revelations (note: pay close attention to the dialogue and other details during the action scenes).

Conclusion

Wolverine #50 (1992) is indeed a very compelling read and it still is a great, standalone Wolverine tale to follow from start to finish. The story has a good amount of intelligence, mystery, political intrigue and twists carefully blended. In my experience, the tension gradually built up as Wolverine’s quest for answers and the truth went on. I can also say the payoffs are rewarding. More notably, this old comic book will make you think deeply about Wolverine and his past, and how Weapon X violated him to the point of ruining his memory. This comic book could also make you sympathetic towards the tough and violent Marvel icon in ways that other forms of media (notably the movies) could not.

Overall, Wolverine $50 (1992) is highly recommended!

#1 Focus on Kevin McHale – It has been more than thirty years since Kevin McHale retired from the NBA. McHale was one of the premier power forwards of the NBA in 1980s and even though he won the Sixth Man Award and three NBA championships with Celtics (he formed the nucleus with Larry Bird and Robert Parish), he has been overlooked in discussions about the most notable power forwards of the league. McHale was also declared as one of the greatest NBA players ever. That said, now is a good time to revisit NBA history with focus on McHale and what he achieved.

#2 NiGHTS into Dreams…revisited – Way back in 1996, Sega released NiGHTS into Dreams… which was a very ambitious Sega Saturn video game made by the same key creators behind the popular Sonic games on Sega Genesis. Back in the old days, Sega was in a bind as it faced tough competition from Nintendo and Sony. That said, the company really had to make an exclusive game that is of very high quality, fun-filled gameplay and ambitious creative designs. #3 Ashleigh Burton reacts to The Animatrix – When it comes to entertainment in the year of 2003, The Matrix entertainment franchise really left its mark with the two hyped sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions but also with the video game Enter The Matrix and the animated anthology The Animatrix. Released between the two live-action movies, The Animatrix featured several animated short stories of the Matrix universe done by different creators and each had different styles of art and visual concepts. The Animatrix also was designed to expand and explain the lore that delighted the fans while helping newcomers get oriented efficiently. #4 Japan opposes Islamic immigration – Let us be very clear here. Massive Islamic immigration is causing a lot of trouble in countries that accepted it. In Japan there is an obvious rise of criminal acts, public nuisance and other forms of problems caused by Islamist foreigners there. There were already rape acts committed by Pakistani men, a dumping of garbage committed by a man from Turkey and more. It is also obvious that the Muslim foreigners in Japan have no respect for Japanese culture, rules and social norms. #5 You, Me and the Movies react to Alligator (1980) – As a very young boy, I saw the 1980 film Alligator on a rented Betamax tape. I saw it alone during my first viewing, and later got a few friends to watch it with me on my second viewing. Alligator was one of those monster movies (AKA creature features) inspired by Steven Spielberg’s Jaws as several movie producers hoped to cash-in on the 1975 film’s popularity and the box office trends of the time. #6 Woke WNBA Slammed by NBA Legends – When the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) first launched in 1997, there was excitement and hope for the development of women competing in professional basketball. Today, the WNBA remains an enduring financial failure as it never came close to the NBA in terms of mainstream importance. Worse, the WNBA has turned woke and it is very accepting towards biological males who identified themselves as women. The transgender and social justice diseases are deep in the minds of the people leading the WNBA which led to the growing madness. #7 Premium Corn Craze in Japan – Have you ever tasted corn imported from Japan? The Japanese love corn and the harvesting of corn in their country is a significant industry on its own. As such, it is not surprising that the selling of corn sourced directly from local farmers is highly pursued by locals. #8 1980s Cartoons Revisited – The way my life turned out, the 1980s will always be the most memorable decade of cartoon series (note: anime is exempted, including those that got translated for the West). The 1980s is the very decade that has significant cartoon titles like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, The Transformers, and so much more. The said decade also has its share of other animated series that failed to attract a massive audience and ended up being obscured and forgotten. #3 Ashleigh Burton reacts to The Animatrix – When it comes to entertainment in the year of 2003, The Matrix entertainment franchise really left its mark with the two hyped sequels The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions but also with the video game Enter The Matrix and the animated anthology The Animatrix. Released between the two live-action movies, The Animatrix featured several animated short stories of the Matrix universe done by different creators and each had different styles of art and visual concepts. The Animatrix also was designed to expand and explain the lore that delighted the fans while helping newcomers get oriented efficiently. #4 Japan opposes Islamic immigration – Let us be very clear here. Massive Islamic immigration is causing a lot of trouble in countries that accepted it. In Japan there is an obvious rise of criminal acts, public nuisance and other forms of problems caused by Islamist foreigners there. #5 You, Me and the Movies react to Alligator (1980) – As a very young boy, I saw the 1980 film Alligator on a rented Betamax tape. I saw it alone during my first viewing, and later got a few friends to watch it with me on my second viewing. Alligator was one of those monster movies (AKA creature features) inspired by Steven Spielberg’s Jaws as several movie producers hoped to cash-in on the 1975 film’s popularity and the box office trends of the time. Over a thousand rebels of the New People’s Army (NPA) and their supporters were neutralized as of August 13, according to a news article of the Philippine News Agency (PNA) citing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Neutralized refers to the surrender, capture, or killing of enemy troops.

The government’s campaign against communist insurgents is gaining momentum as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reported neutralizing 1,045 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and their supporters during operations conducted from Jan. 1 to Aug. 13 this year.

Of the total, 935 surrendered, 38 were arrested, and 72 were killed in various military operations, AFP spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla said in a media interview late Tuesday.

“A total of 661 firearms and 255 anti-personnel mines were either seized or surrendered, and 38 encampments were seized (in the same period),” she said.

Neutralized is a military term that refers to the surrender, capture, or killing of enemy troops.

“The numbers give us an indication of the operational situation, but we should look beyond the numbers. The more significant story is that 935 CTG (communist terrorist group) members and supporters chose to surrender,” Padilla pointed out.

In 2025, the military said it neutralized around 2,018 NPA members and their supporters. The bulk of whom were surrenderers, at 1,798, while 93 were arrested and 127 were killed.

Law to Punish Japanese Flag Desecration Takes Effect

If you are caught desecrating the national flag there in Japan, you will eventually get arrested and get punished by means of imprisonment and penalty fees as a new law took effect, according to a news article by Jiji Press. About a month ago, the law to punish the desecration of Japan’s flag was enacted by the nation’s Parliament and was a legislative victory for the administration of Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, their partner Japan Innovation Party and even some opposition members.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news article of Jiji Press. Some parts in boldface…

A law to criminalize acts of damaging Japan’s national flag came into effect Thursday, amid unresolved concerns about its impact on expressive activities following criticisms that the scope of punishable acts is unclear.

Under the Japanese law, those who publicly damage, remove or deface the national flag in a way that causes people to feel extremely uncomfortable or disgusted could face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 200,000 yen. Livestreams of such acts are subject to punishment, while archive broadcasts are not.

The law seeks to protect tangible objects used as a national flag. Creative works, such as anime and images produced with generative artificial intelligence, as well as flag-shaped decorations on children’s meals and flag-inspired patterns on clothes are excluded from the scope of the law.

The legislation stipulates that whether an act is punishable is determined through a comprehensive assessment of the objective circumstances, including the external form of the act and the surrounding situation, while giving consideration to the freedom of expression and belief.

#5 When Hollywood Released Two Similar Movies In 1998 – Way back in 1998, moviegoers worldwide saw two movies from Hollywood that had similar concepts about the world getting hit by something from deep space. The movies were Deep Impact and Armageddon, and they were released in the same summer box office season in America. The adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s literary Ghost in the Shell was made with very high production values under the direction of Mamoru Oshii, the story had many futuristic concepts that became very relevant today, and it was very influential for many Hollywood filmmakers. #7 Casablanca Reaction Video Of EOM Reacts – There is nothing like watching a classic, black-and-white movie like Casablanca. Set in French Morocco, the story follows many characters dealing with the uncertainty of war and it is inside the nightclub and gambling den of American expatriate Rick Blaine where a lot of developments happened. #10 Atari Jaguar CD Revisited – While I played a lot of games of Atari (both on Atari 2600 console and arcade games) in my life, I never owned an Atari Jaguar nor its CD-ROM add-on device. Indeed, there was a time in the 1990s when Atari got back in console gaming starting with the Jaguar console that operated with games in cartridge format. I felt the walls closing in on me. Standing in the family room of our parents’ house, my brother and sisters probably all felt it. It was 1985, and we gathered to stage an intervention for our youngest sib, Rick. I had misgivings.

Rick had always been the smartest of the LaTempt brood: almost a perfect score on the SAT test, scholarship to Princeton and all the rest. He was also the best-looking, even-tempered, and likeable. He had one dire failing in our opinion, and that was what we’d all come together to address.

The pretext we used to get him to come here was a birthday party for Maddie, who at 30 was the oldest of us. When he realized he’d been duped, would be become enraged? No, Rick had a high threshold for bullshit.

“He’s here,” whispered Annie, 21, and Rick’s fraternal twin, as she peered through the curtains.

We all froze in place for no reason.

Using his own key, Rick let himself in. “Hey, Maddie,” he said, spotting her first. He hugged our sister with one arm. In his other hand, he clutched a wrapped present. “Happy birthday!”

Maddie stood stiffly, finally said, “Thank you, Honey.”

Rick’s watchful eyes took in each of the 3 other faces in the room. “Did somebody die?” he asked, only half in jest.

“Rick,” said Malcolm, at 28 the oldest of the 3 males, “come in and have a seat.” He indicated one of the two sofas.

Frowning thoughtfully, Rick sat down.

“Rick,” announced Annie, always his closet sib, “this is an intervention.”

Ricky’s features grew hard. This wasn’t what he’d signed up for.

We all sat.

Maddie, the take-charge gal, said, “Rick, we’re concerned for your welfare, for your health, for your life.”

Rick didn’t say anything.

“You’re a 21-year-old, man,” I said, “and we’re afraid you won’t make it to 22.” I was but a year older than Rick, the brother closest in age to him. We were always close. Then why did I feel like I was betraying him?

Maddie turned up a whiteboard, of all things, upon which she’d scribbled notes in a blue marker. She pointed to what she’d written. “More than 30,000 people have died from AIDS, Baby, and most of them were homosexual.” She went on to the next note, “and hundreds of thousands have been infected with HIV.”

Rich sat impassively.

“There is no cure, Rick,” said Malcolm harshly. “Do you want to end up just another statistic?” he asked in a gruff voice. Malcolm was always a ladies’ man and was shattered to discover that he baby bro’, pretty like him, was queer. Perhaps it made him wonder about his own sexuality.

After Maddie, we each took our turn, trying to convince Rick to turn his life around, to stop having unprotected sex, to become straight again, like a normal person. In the leadup to this event, we even discussed a controversial new concept known as conversion therapy, involving abduction, seclusion, and coercion. I was glad we didn’t go that route.

Finally, our energy spent, we sat around waiting for Rick to speak. Then he did.

“I am aware of all you’ve told me here today,” he said. “I know that HIV/AIDS is a killer. A death sentence for anyone, gay or straight, who becomes infected. But the fact remains that I am gay…”

“No, Honey,” wailed Maddie, still clutching her whiteboard.

“I’m sorry if that hurts you, Maddie,” said Rick gently, “but it’s the God-honest truth. I was born this way, just as Annie was born a female and cute and dimpled…”

Annie blushed.

“…and Jimmy,” he said, nodding my way, “was born straight–and with 2 left feet.” He went on, “I don’t have unprotected sex. But I did in the past, when I was a teenager, and the epidemic emerged. I took another HIV test two weeks ago…”

We all held our breath.

“…and it was negative.”

We let out our breath.

“You should never tell anyone that you’re gay,” scolded Annie gently. “They can fire you or not hire you for a job.”

“They can go to the devil,” said Rick tersely, “I’m out of the closet. I have been since I was 16, when the folks died.”

Our parents perished in an automobile accident more than 5 years ago, leaving a gaping hole in our family. Maddie and Malcolm finished raising the rest of us, and were our anchor. But in Rick’s case, they felt they’d failed abjectly.

“Are you aware that gay people are attacked and beaten and murdered just for being homosexual?” asked Maddie.

“Yes,” said Rick. “I am intimately aware of violence against gays. Stonewall Inn, the Upstairs Lounge, Harvey Milk…” he went on to list a myriad of instances of gay bashing that I was unfamiliar with. “But I like who I am. I love being gay. I love the fellowship and companionship and the love that I receive from my people.”

“Is there anything we can do to change your mind?” asked Maddie.

“I am,” said Rick, “what I am. Why can’t you celebrate my life as well?” he asked, searching each of our faces in turn.

Annie, seated to his right, leaned into Rick and threw her arms around him. “I love you, Rick. I’ll celebrate your life.”

I sat on Rick’s other side and put my arm around his shoulders. “I love you too, Rick,” I said warmly.

“I can’t do this,” said Malcolm gruffly. He snatched up his jacket and stormed out of the house. The door slammed behind him.

Maddie, her eyes moist with tears, followed on the heels of her brother.

We sat, I don’t know how long, holding hands and basking in the devotion we shared all our lives. We reached a new pinnacle of self-awareness and mutual love. Despite being somewhat shut out by Maddie and Malcolm, we remained close for the remainder of Rick’s precious life, which ended in 1992 when U.S. Chief Petty Officer Rick LaTempt was stomped to death by two American sailors in a public restroom in Japan. This event was instrumental in bringing about the U.S. Military’s ill-conceived policy of Don’t Ask-Don’t Tell.

Annie and I now both have families, and we each named our oldest son after Rick.

Philippines Attracts 2.9 Million Foreign Tourists In First Half Of 2026

For the first half of this year, the Philippines attracted 2.9 million foreign tourists and 1.13 million of that came from the United States and South Korea combined, according to a news report by Business Mirror. The figure does not include the 260,717 overseas Filipinos or balikbayan.

When compared to its Asian neighbors’ first-half foreign tourist numbers, the Philippines is still way behind Vietnam which attracted 12.3 million and Japan which attracted 21 million.

MORE relaxed visa entry requirements have enabled the Philippines to attract an increasing number of foreign tourists, lifting total visitor arrivals by 5.41 percent in the first half of the year.

Data from the Department of Tourism (DOT) showed 3.16 million inbound tourists from January to June 2026, of which 2.9 million were foreign nationals and 260,717 were overseas Filipinos. The latter are described as Philippine passport holders permanently residing abroad. This year’s arrivals are 76.5 percent of the 4.13 million total in the first half of prepandemic 2019.

The DOT stressed that the data are based on e-travel records provided by the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and are not final until Bureau of Immigration records are taken into account. E-travel registration is mandatory for those arriving in the Philippines except foreign diplomats, dignitaries, foreign government officials and their delegation, visiting business executives and students  sponsored by the Philippine  government or international organizations, and their immediate family members (9e visa).

Of the total foreign nationals, which were up 6.3 percent from the 2.73 million year on year (yoy), tourists from China and India were the most improved by 64.54 percent and 43 percent, respectively. Residents from both countries have been allowed to enter the Philippines visa-free for tourism purposes for 14 days.

The top 12 source markets of visitors for the Philippines all recorded increases, except for South Korea, with long-haul markets like Germany even showing monthly increases yoy, despite the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which had jacked up jet fuel prices.

S. Korea plunges 13.7% – The United States continues to be the top source market for the Philippines with arrivals at 581,565 in the first half of the year, an increase of some 6.9 percent from the same period in 2025. Most of the market continues to be composed of Americans of Filipino decent, or Filipino immigrants, who visit the Philippines usually during the holiday season in December and January.

Some 300 Filipino-Americans are currently in the country as part of government’s long-running Very Important Pinoy (VIP) tour, and visiting destinations other than Metro Manila such as Cebu, Dumaguete, and Siquijor.

In second place are tourists from South Korea at 552,860, slumping by 13.7 percent, yoy. This was followed by Japan at 581,565 (+6.87 percent); China at 219,796 (+64.54 percent); Australia at 174,257 (+12.3 percent); and Canada at 156,763 (+15.6 percent), another haven of Filipino immigrants. Air Canada began offering direct flights from Vancouver to Manila in April last year, while flag carrier Philippine Airlines offers nonstop flights between Manila and Vancouver, and Toronto.

Tourists from Taiwan were in seventh place at 111,134, an increase of 11.85 percent; folowed by the United Kingdom at 92,829 (+1.7 percent); Singapore at 78,069 (0.35 percent); India at 60,583 (43.03 percent); Malaysia at 53,437 (+11.5 percent); and Germany at 48,657 (+6.9 percent).

Under the General Appropriations Act of 2026, the DOT committed to attract 6.7 million foreign tourists this year.

As a direct sequel, Saints Row 2 took place in the fictional city of Stilwater (the main setting of the first game) which has been expanded and modified a lot by Volition to not only reflect the passage of time but also offer gamers a bigger environment to explore and enjoy. Among fans of the Saints Row series, it has been argued that Saints Row 2 is the best to play and I myself enjoyed replaying it the most. WTA Institutes Genetic Testing To Ensure Fair Competition In Women’s Category

Another big victory for women in sports and common sense happened as the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) officially updated its policy requiring applicants for competition to take a genetic test that screens for the SRY gene, according to a report by Breitbart News. The newly enacted rule effectively bans men who identify as women from joining women’s competition.

For insight, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) implemented its own policy on the protection of the female category in Olympic sports.

The Women’s Tennis Association has enacted a new rule banning men who identify as women from competition by requiring genetic testing to qualify to play in the women’s sport.

The WTA’s updated policy requires applicants for competition to take a genetic test that screens for the SRY gene, which is found on the male Y chromosome, according to the New York Post.

Potential players who test negative for SRY are immediately qualified to play in the women’s category. A positive result will trigger closer scrutiny before any possibility of becoming eligible, the tennis organization ruled.

Players who refuse testing will be required to sign a document acknowledging that their refusal could result in disciplinary action after any investigation into their application.

“The WTA’s women’s eligibility policy is designed to promote equal athletic opportunities in women’s professional tennis and maintain fair competition for all players participating in WTA tournaments,” the policy states.

“The WTA recognizes that this is a sensitive and complex issue and is committed to treating all players with dignity and implementing the policy in a respectful and thoughtful way,” the organization added after releasing the news.

The sport governing body said the change came after discussion with current members and a review of actions by other international women’s sport organizations.

The new rule seems to be a replacement for previous rules that allowed transgender athletes to compete if their testosterone was below 2.5 nmol/L for at least two years before competing.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova hailed the WTA’s move, calling it a “step in the right direction.”

In another post on X, Navratilova wrote that she is “very happy that we at the WTA are clear that we are a women’s association and only women, as in females, can compete at the highest level of women’s tennis.”

Trump Administration Trashes Biden-Era LGBTQ Foster Care Rule

Remember a few years ago when the administration of failed US President Joe Biden came up with a foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to accept them through gender identity? That outrageous rule was never implemented but the Trump administration formally eliminated it which is good for the United States, according to a news report by Newsmax.

The Trump administration on Tuesday formally eliminated a Biden-era foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to affirm their stated gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF) removed the April 2024 regulation from the Code of Federal Regulations, saying the move will provide clarity and help recruit more foster families nationwide.

The rule never took effect after it was struck down by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, but the administration said removing it entirely closes the door on the policy.

Assistant HHS Secretary Alex Adams told The Daily Wire the decision reflects the administration’s belief that more families should feel welcome to foster children.

“The message that we think it sends is that all families are welcome,” Adams said. “We have too few foster families nationally. We must roll out the red carpet, and we must ensure that there’s homes waiting on kids, not kids waiting on homes.”

The Biden administration’s rule directed federally funded child welfare agencies to ensure that children who “self-identify with an alternative sexual orientation or self-identify as something other than their sex in foster care” were placed with families that would affirm those identities.

The Trump administration said rescinding the regulation supports first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative and a related executive order calling for a government-wide effort to strengthen the nation’s foster care system.

Adams said the administration has also launched its “Home for Every Child” campaign to increase the number of foster homes available for children entering the system.

“Nationally, we have a shortage,” Adams said. “We only have 57 homes for every 100 kids coming in, so we can and must do better to ensure that there’s enough homes for kids because when there’s not enough homes, kids end up in short-term rentals, hotels, government office spaces, etc.”

Adams said families with strong religious beliefs and moral convictions make up a large share of those willing to foster children, making it critical that the federal government not discourage them from participating.

Trump Administration Trashes Biden-Era LGBTQ Foster Care Rule

Remember a few years ago when the administration of failed US President Joe Biden came up with a foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to accept them through gender identity? That outrageous rule was never implemented but the Trump administration formally eliminated it which is good for the United States, according to a news report by Newsmax.

The Trump administration on Tuesday formally eliminated a Biden-era foster care rule that sought to require children who identify as LGBTQ be placed with families willing to affirm their stated gender identity or sexual orientation.

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF) removed the April 2024 regulation from the Code of Federal Regulations, saying the move will provide clarity and help recruit more foster families nationwide.

The rule never took effect after it was struck down by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, but the administration said removing it entirely closes the door on the policy.

Assistant HHS Secretary Alex Adams told The Daily Wire the decision reflects the administration’s belief that more families should feel welcome to foster children.

“The message that we think it sends is that all families are welcome,” Adams said. “We have too few foster families nationally. We must roll out the red carpet, and we must ensure that there’s homes waiting on kids, not kids waiting on homes.”

The Biden administration’s rule directed federally funded child welfare agencies to ensure that children who “self-identify with an alternative sexual orientation or self-identify as something other than their sex in foster care” were placed with families that would affirm those identities.

The Trump administration said rescinding the regulation supports first lady Melania Trump’s “Fostering the Future” initiative and a related executive order calling for a government-wide effort to strengthen the nation’s foster care system.

Adams said the administration has also launched its “Home for Every Child” campaign to increase the number of foster homes available for children entering the system.

“Nationally, we have a shortage,” Adams said. “We only have 57 homes for every 100 kids coming in, so we can and must do better to ensure that there’s enough homes for kids because when there’s not enough homes, kids end up in short-term rentals, hotels, government office spaces, etc.”

Adams said families with strong religious beliefs and moral convictions make up a large share of those willing to foster children, making it critical that the federal government not discourage them from participating.
