Iniciamos esta temporada de programas enlatados, donde reciclamos varias charlas de la estación marica. Ahora toca hablar de los Gay Games, o Gay Shame (vergüenza ajena) más bien. 2027 will be the year when Cardiff becomes the first UK city to host EuroGames, Europe's biggest annual LGBTQ+ multi-sports event.
EuroGames is open to anybody, no matter how they identify. It is governed by the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation and is a "sports for all" event, meaning it is open to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, age and skill level.
“No other competition that's this big in Europe allows gender non-conforming people, trans people and non-binary people to compete this way." Yes! 👍

I went to the #GayGames in #HongKong this past week and had a great time.
I got a silver in Self Defence and a gold in Sparring. Aeron from Wollongong, who took the silver in Sparring (and FOUR silvers overall) partnered with me for SD as I only learned the competition the day before. He and his whole team were great.
The judges (who were fairly inept throughout everyone's matches) tried to give me the silver in sparring at the end. Aeron and his teammates loudly objected to this and told them I'd won all the sparring matches (when he could have just taken home the gold). He and the others were so great to meet.
There was so much camaraderie. One of the black belts interrupted her match to chastise the judges for not giving her opponent a point that the opponent clearly earned. It was such a good vibe. At least two of the other martial artists were autistic as well.
Pic of me with Desmond, from China, who got the gold in Self Defence, as well as Chris from Hong Kong and Aeron from Wollongong, who got the bronze and silver in sparring respectively. Aeron sent me the action shot of us mid-spar also.

As part of #GayGames Hong Kong 2023, the AIDS quilt memorial ceremony was held on Saturday to commemorate those who died in the AIDS epidemic, and to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS.
Audience members were invited to add the names of those who've passed away from AIDS-related illnesses. The quilt - now hung at Central's Festival Village - also included the names of those who received previous dedications during past Gay Games. Photo: Gay Games.

CW: gay content in games
I get weirded out when a gay guy describes a gay romance path in a mainstream game approvingly as "it's so wholesomely done".
I think that for all the work gays have done to create space for themselves, there's something dark about chasing respectability.
Echoes of "you can be yourself as long as we can't see it" I suppose.
I'm not really expressing it very well.

#ThrowbackThursday
25 years ago this week. #GayGames #Amsterdam August 1998.I was there with the #SportClimbing competitors representing #TeamGB, most of whom were #GayOutdoorClub members. GB had 3 medal winners. Then out for a meal after the competition.
The atmosphere in Amsterdam was amazing that week, with the opening and closing ceremonies featuring 12000+ athletes at the Ajax Arena.

Hello #QueerGames folks! I am interested in running a queer video game club as part of my company's pride, but I haven't been paying much attention to this space recently - all my old favorites were made with flash and don't run anymore!
Can you help suggest #GayGames that are:
- Free or PWYW
- Ideally run in the browser
- Short (max a few hours), or can get a meaningful experience without finishing it
- Made by an #LGBTQIA+ creator and touching in some way on #queer themesThanks!

#HongKong set to make #history by hosting #Asia's first-ever #gaygames
"We believe that hosting the Games for the very first time here will be a momentous experience and a cornerstone for our Asian community as well as for the whole world," reads the GGHK website.

I signed up to compete in the #GayGames in #HongKong next year. I'll be competing in Martial Arts (as I've been training in #MuayThai). It'll take place over 3-11 November.
What's great about the Gay Games is that anybody can participate, regardless of gender, age, disability, etc. (which is more than I can say for disability-centric sporting competitions). There's also a focus on "participation, inclusion, and personal best" rather than winning or being the "best in the world."
