Just got my ballot for the midterms in the mail yesterday, but checked my mailbox this morning and found it was there. Was a little bit concerned since Washington State is one of the vote-by-mail states in the United States, and I figured that a certain idiot in the White House and his cronies over at the United States Postal Service would be mucking about with people's ballots. Since it's actually here, I'll be dropping by my friend Curtis's place and we will sit down together, discuss who we're voting for, and fill out our ballots, and then personally walk them over to the official ballot drop box in front of the city hall in the suburb where we live. The West Point (WSPT) sewage treatment plant's SARS-CoV2 seven-day running average numbers came down this week. Still high though. The last seven day running average calculation was done on 10/6.
WSPT is one of three King County(-ish) sewersheds in this dataset. Yesterday I came across this small waterfall tucked back in the forest beneath a huge fallen log.
What caught my eye was how the log framed the waterfall, with the deep green pool, moss-covered rocks, and ferns surrounding it.

"Washington #Initiative638 aims to ban trans girls from girls’ sports, and Washington #Initiative001 would threaten the privacy and safety of 2SLGBTQIA+ students by opening up access to all school records to parents, including medical and mental health records. Opponents of the measure say it could force school staff to out students who may not be accepted at home.
"The Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians , a nonprofit organization representing 57 tribal governments, passed a resolution at its annual September convention opposing both ballot measures.
" 'Therefore, be it resolved, that #ATNI strongly opposes Washington Initiatives I-001 and I-638 and finds that these measures are inconsistent with the Tribes’ commitment to protecting children, strengthening families, and ensuring the well-being of all young people,' the text of the resolution reads.

"As the country gears up for midterm elections in November, concerns about mail-in-voting echo across the Pacific Northwest, particularly in Washington state, with issues such as ballots being rejected for late postmarks.
As tribal leaders and state officials gathered for the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI) annual convention in mid-September, the resounding message was for people to vote early and find a ballot drop box to hand deliver your ballot.
'With the way the postal service is being manipulated, we probably should just stay out of that the best we can and vote early, and let people know that they’re going to be safe because that’s the intent, to suppress the vote,' said Leonard Forsman, #SuquamishTribe, and #ATNI president. 'But just want to get that message out there that people should just continue to remember to get out and vote.'
"In #Oregon and #WashingtonState, both vote-by-mail states, an increasing number of ballots have been rejected for late postmarks after changes to the #USPostalService policy. That means postmark dates may not indicate the day mail was received, but when it was processed. Processing centers are likely to be located far from rural communities which would delay the postmark date."

If you visit Seattle - or really any part of central Cascadia with ferry service - from somewhere far away, seriously, take the ferry. Not with a car, just walk on. It's basically a dirt cheap cruise, you can pick your length depending upon where you go. You can get off and walk around on the far side and it's nice to do so, but you don't even have to.
(But you should, particularly if you go to Winslow in the summer.)
