  1. "Working on the Highway" is a 1984 song written and performed by #BruceSpringsteen. It was released on the album #BornInTheUSA and has remained a popular concert song for Springsteen and the #EStreetBand. As with some of the other songs on the Born in the U.S.A. album, including "Downbound Train" and #theTitleTrack, "Working on the Highway" was originally recorded on January 3, 1982, with the demo tracks that eventually became the #Nebraska album.

  8. Hope this one gets removed from the ballot. Julie Slama, the Ricketts’s toady, needs to be handed a defeat. This group’s paid harassers, oops, I mean petition signature gatherers, were a menace, and it would be fantastic if it were all for naught.

  23. The Silo Remembers the Harvest

From Nebraska to New York, the silos are hollow until hallowed. The elevator starts before the sun does. On a November morning in 2019, I stood by a rail siding in a county-seat town in Nebraska and watched a truck empty itself into the pit while the leg lifted the corn a hundred feet into the headhouse, kernel by kernel, out of sight. What stays with you is the sound. A grain elevator at work has a voice like weather, a steady granular rain inside a concrete throat, and the dust it exhales catches the first light and holds it for a moment above the tracks. The building does one thing a child could explain: it keeps the harvest, standing at the edge of town, taller than the church, the courthouse, and the water tower, doing that one thing for a hundred years. Yet the same word that names this building now names the most despised structure in American institutional life. Say "silo" in a boardroom or a hearing room and the response arrives on reflex: break them down. Somewhere between the rail siding and the hearing room, the container became the crime. […]

  24. Omaha Police Deploy G.L.O.V.E. Electroshock Gloves for School Resource Officers as ICE Plans Parallel Acquisition

    Video Source
    reddit.com/comments/1vqawj0

The G.L.O.V.E., or Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, is a wearable electroshock device manufactured by Compliant Technologies of Lexington, Kentucky. Omaha Police Department purchased 40 pairs for approximately $66,000 after City Council approval in June 2025. School resource officers wear the gloves and activate electric pulses through palm pads by grip pressure. The dual-use vector is the same pain-compliance architecture now under DHS solicitation for ICE agents at up to $20 million.

For students this means exposure to directed electric pain in middle and high schools. The right in tension is bodily autonomy. The pattern follows prior less-lethal expansions justified by de-escalation. OPD has recorded two uses with zero reported injuries; expansion remains under evaluation.

At scale the capability normalizes contact electroshock in educational settings and federal enforcement. Verify via City Council records and DHS notices. Scrutiny of procurement transparency and use-of-force policies is the immediate response.

  25. Discrimination Day: How a Classroom Stunt Trained Children to Obey and Called It Empathy

At Brownell Elementary School in Lincoln, Nebraska, around 1973, my teachers ran a famous experiment on my class, and by the standard they set, I failed it. They split the room in two. The children with brown eyes were told they could command the children with blue eyes, and the blue-eyed children had to obey. I have grey eyes, so the teachers folded me in with the blue group, the way they folded in the hazel-eyed and anyone else who refused to fit the clean binary they wanted. For a day I watched classmates order other classmates to do push-ups, to fetch coats, to answer to the word "master." The teacher delivered the moral with a satisfied smile: "Now you know how it feels to be Black." We had, at most, one or two Black students in the entire school. […]
