  12. "If you are feeling overwhelmed by the speed of change, join the global club!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

To work at the leading edge of AI today is to work with a world that is moving at an astonishing speed. All around you. It's a world of fast-moving developments. To name just a few:

At the end of January, a new ‘agentic AI’ platform, now known as OpenClaw, was released to the world by a software developer. Use and adoption exploded overnight as the global tech community installed, explored, and began working with it (I’ve yet to jump in). Just yesterday, Nvidia announced a corporate enterprise version of the concept known as NemoClaw, which addresses many of the security and other concerns of the original software. We've never seen software that has gone from the release of a concept to a scalable, corporate enterprise version at such a speed.

That’s but one aspect of fast-moving change. The very concept of how we use AI is changing. In the last few weeks, Claude Copilot and Claude Cowork have taken the world by storm. I’ve spent the last few weeks working with the latter, using it to fix x up some aspects of my home automation system, help with editing my latest book, exploring issues related to my spinal injury, and managing a little biographical project I’ve been working on. The change with what this software brings is profound — I no longer ask an AI a question, I instruct the AI what work I want it to do.

Other new platforms are emerging all around us. Today’s image was generated by using a new feature on a presentation AI I use, gamma.app. I simply instructed it with the type of image I wanted and the words I wanted to use, and I quickly had 3 options to choose from. (I chose one, flipped it into Canva, and placed a photo on top.) Hours later, Google announced Stitch By Google, which, by all indications, should do the same type of thing.

To understand AI, you’ve not only got to understand how quickly it is moving, but what exactly IS moving.

And to understand AI, you’ve got to commit to being overwhelmed by the speed and breadth of what is occurring all around you.

Sometime last year, I observed that watching AI is like watching the emergence of the Internet in the 90’s. And right now, it’s like we are in our Netscape moment. When that software appeared, people around the world realized that the nature of the Internet had changed forever, and that the world was, at that moment, a world of unprecedented opportunity.

We’re at the Netscape moment right now.

    ----

Futurist Jim Carroll lived through the 'Netscape' moment in the 90s and was astonished by the creative energy it unleashed around the world. This new moment is even bigger.

  13. “Don't fear the chaos. Feed on it.” - Futurist Jim Carroll

Bouncing back is a losing strategy!

We are on Day 18. We have established that the future is scaling beyond comprehension (Day 16) and that your only defense is Unapologetic Uniqueness (Day 17).

Now, we must address the environment in which you will operate through 2026 and beyond. It is going to be even more volatile. It is going to be chaotic. It will be characterized by sudden shocks, black swans, and "impossible" events happening at almost every single moment.

    Just like 2025.

    Except far more volatile.

If you think about it, the standard corporate response to this has been the idea of developing "resilience." Everyone is talking about it, listening to experts on it, finding out how to manage, heck. Heck, even I use the phrase too much - I have a website all about it, resilience.jimcarroll.com.

I've come to realize that going forward, in an exponential world, resilience is not enough.

Resilience is a linear concept. It means surviving a shock and returning to your original shape—like a rubber band. It implies that "bouncing back" to the status quo is the goal. It assumes that going back to where you were - rather than where you should be going - is good enough.

But in 2026, the status quo is death. If you just "bounce back" to where you were in 2024, you are already behind, because 2026 is wildly different from what 'was two years before. Exponential change does that.

That's why you need to stop trying to be resilient and start becoming
    Antifragile.

As I wrote in my book Dancing in the Rain: How Bold Leaders Grow Stronger in Stormy Times, the goal isn't to endure the storm. The goal is to use the energy of the storm to accelerate.

To understand why this shift to a mindset beyond 'resilience' is so critical, we can look at the data I compiled in the book. The research is detailed: the safety of the "middle ground" does not exist during periods of volatility. You are either accelerating away from the pack or falling behind it.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time on a crazy number of stages in front of tens of thousands of people who were shellshocked and whipsawed from 2000 to 2003 by economic volatility. I did it again after the 2008 global economic meltdown. And after that, too - every once in a while, I whip out these observations and share them from the stage.

Here's what you need to do right now!

  18. A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt

Practical equality of opportunity for all citizens, when we achieve it, will have two great results. First, every man will have a fair chance to make of himself all that in him lies; to reach the highest point to which his capacities, unassisted by special privilege of his own and unhampered by the special privilege of others, can carry him, and to get for himself and his family substantially what he has earned. Second, equality of opportunity means that the commonwealth will get from every citizen the highest service of which he is capable. No man who carries the burden of the special privileges of another can give to the commonwealth that service to which it is fairly entitled.

Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) American politician, statesman, conservationist, writer, US President (1901-1909)
Speech (1910-08-31), “The New Nationalism,” John Brown Memorial Park dedication, Osawatomie, Kansas

  19. "It's all fairway when you put in the work!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

If you golf, you know instantly when you hit a great tee shot. And as a speaker, you know instantly when one moment has suddenly changed some lives and an industry. As a golfer and speaker, I've had both moments.

Let's start with golf. In my last few rounds - including yesterday - I've been hitting 100% of fairways consistently. This is a good thing, but it's only happening because I've put in the work. My irons are also, as the vernacular goes, 'dialled in,' pretty consistently hitting within 10 or 20 percent of my target. Golfers obsess over stuff like this.

As a futurist and innovation speaker, I also obsess over the quality of my work.

If you golf, you will know that today is the opening round of the PGA of America golf tournament.

One of my career highlights was back in 2010 when I keynoted the annual general meeting of the PGA of America, the organization that hosts this tournament. Most folks don't understand who the real 'PGA' golfer is who would be a member of this association, and who were at my talk. The folks in the room were not the Rorys and Brysons and Xanders- it was the hard-working local club pro at your golf club. The one who teaches lessons and runs the pro shop, who joins you on Mens Day or Ladies Day, manages the golf course, and hires all the other professional golf staff. Some of them might have competed on tour as a PGA Tour player (a different association!), but many simply love the game of golf and have built a career out of successfully running your local golf club.

And back in 2010, unlike today, the industry they were working in was facing a reckoning.

And somehow or other, I was selected to be the opening keynote speaker for their AGM. My job was to come in and provide insight into the trends that might provide them with opportunities for growth in the future. And that was the entire focus of this AGM - the meeting tagline was 'Grow the Game.' Not only that, my marching orders were to help shake them out of their complacency and encourage them to make innovative thinking the core of what they do.

    I piped it.
