Is je verhaal saai, lang, complex? Maak er een #animatie van!

  20. The Postal Service is running big deficits today. But you can trace its problems back to 1970, when Congress told the Post Office to start acting like a business. It isn’t a business, and most Americans would be upset if the #USPS ever acted like one. fromthegovt.com/the-postal-ser

  27. @blogdiva I've said it before and I'll say it again. The #usps is a governmental service delineated in the Constitution. It should not be forced to "turn a profit." We don't ask any other public service, e.g. military, education, to make money. Mail delivery is a service for us—We, the People.

  32. My gosh. The package that spurred me to post about the mysteries of the Indianapolis Postal Tarpit finally left there after several days. It went all the way to Fort Wayne for a day. As of this morning, it’s back in Indianapolis again. It started in Wisconsin nine days ago heading here to Virginia.

  37. You *say* #USPS should be privatized, but you know those weird delivery services you can never remember the names of? The ones with unmarked vehicles and people roaming around your yard at 9 PM? The ones that kind of deliver if they feel like it?

    Yeah, they suck don't they?

  42. For those of you who think #Amazon doesn't care much about its delivery drivers: Because of all the smoke here, they are handing over all deliveries to the local post office. The #USPS, in turn, are forcing us to drive down to the post office to get our large packages because they don't come house to house in my area. That's a 12-mile round trip for me.🙄

And yes, I know! Shame on me for ordering from them. But sometimes they are the only fucking alternative for some of the weird shit I need.

  47. The #USPS is older than "America", because communication knows no borders.

Now :dumpster_fire: Donald Drumpf's idea for AmeriKKKa is to privatize the postal service to further pollute democracy.

The #Intercept has emailed a bunch of people with these notes, and a simple request: Demand that your #Senate rep disallow this takeover. Three SEPARATE BUT EQUAL branches are how we are supposed to stop this, not a conglomerate of Drumpf's hatred for humans and the ugliness of his soul.

Donald Trump has nominated four candidates for the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors in an attempted takeover of the cherished public institution, which is older than the nation itself. And he knows that USPS is responsible for carrying millions of ballots during the midterm elections.

We made enough noise that two of the nominees never made it to committee, but the other two — Jeffrey Brodsky and William Gallo — were voted through committee, and the Senate could soon convene to confirm or reject them.

This is our last chance to stop Trump from dominating the postal board and bullying forward his election interference schemes, as well as everything from price hikes and delivery slowdowns to privatization.

Brodsky has spent 30 years in the corporate restructuring world, treating distressed companies as projects to be cut apart, reorganized, and squeezed for investors — a literal privatization expert. Gallo comes from commodities trading and private business. Neither one has any postal experience, much less a record of defending universal service, postal workers, affordable rates, rural delivery, or election mail.

Trump wants a Postal Service that follows his political orders and prepares itself for a corporate sell-off. The Senate can stop him.
