  1. No night hits quite as hard as a Cascadian dusk where the fog rolls in, the salty mist ruffles your jacket in the wind, and a light shines forth that may as well be from the Flying Dutchman himself.

Taken at Cape Flattery one July, "The Ship at the Edge of the World".

  6. As I did last year, I accompanied some friends out to the Olympic Peninsula to catch the tail end of autumn.  On our previous trip we bumped into some folks collecting chantarelle mushrooms, and we came prepared to get a huge haul like they'd had.

So, of course, we barely found any.  Ah well.

It was cloudy and drizzly, typical weather for the time of year, but that worked for me just fine.  The colors popped, the clouds were low enough to play with the mountain tops, and the rain stayed away long enough for me to take some photos to bring back to you.  :)

  7. As someone who’s wandered through the thick trunks of Vancouver Island his whole life, the Olympic Peninsula forest has been a bit of fantasy. I’ve never walked there. But I’ve seen pictures.
Now, with fascism rampant in the USA, I fear for those trunks. “Better in a mill or lumberyard, filling my pockets,” some logger crony is thinking or saying, right now.
I also fear for my safety. So I won’t be crossing the Juan de Fuca Strait anytime soon. I may never see these thick trunks in the bark, so to speak.

  8. Near #PortTownsend, WA? Into #vinyl? We happened upon a great place to check out: Quimper Sound. Awesome prices and great selection.

  9. I spent Memorial Day weekend camping at the beach with a couple of friends, on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula. We were fortunate to have had fantastic weather the first two days (never a guarantee here this time of year), and I had a great time shooting while we explored the area.

We went up to Kalaloch Beach to see the Tree of Life, and also hit Ruby Beach at sunset. The air at Ruby Beach was filled with mist from the crashing waves, lit golden by the sun. One of the sea stacks had a hole in it, through with the sunlight was positively streaming, and the shot I got of it is now up in my store as Poseidon’s Door.

I also turned my lens on smaller things I found lying in the sand, and got a long exposure night shot to round things out.

I hope your Memorial Day weekend was equally pleasant!

  14. Loving the morning light on the fresh snow! ❄️🩵💙💜💛

Lots of bird activity at the feeders today. Flickers, Starlings, songbirds, Towhees, Anna's.

Witnessed a bald eagle duke it out with a red tailed hawk midair.

It's 18° here currently. Having to swap out the hummingbird feeders every 1-2 hours! They're drinking it up, too.
