  1. Pleased with the colours on my chopping board tonight.

  2. Didn't do much today, but made some proper #food by #cooking with some leftover #garden #harvest. Tomatoes, bell pepper, assorted vegetables and penne.

  3. Beans did great this year, we ate loads, froze some and they just kept coming.

Peas are done, we let some dry for seeds and tore out the plants and supports.

The last two surviving sweetcorn cobs were the largest and so got plucked and peeled to dry for seeds.

Also got seeds from the two tobacco plants that popped up randomly after we dug over the former greenhouse for the first time. Nobody here smokes, but I'm kinda curious to experiment with them.

    Cucumbers are done too.

Even managed to save a few hazelnuts from the mad squirrels this year.

Just pumpkins, sunflowers and apples left now. And the apples are pretty sour still. Not enough sun. Endless rain.

Stretch, Harvest, Tractor, and Alpha were names to conjure with for more than twenty years.

A stellar cast led the development of the products behind these names, including Turing Award winners John Cooke, Fred Brooks, and Fran Allen.

This excellent IEESpectrum history by Peter Capek is based on many sources, including his personal experiences as an IBM computer engineer.

  19. Not a lot of harvesting in the garden this year but it's adequate. A bit of cooler weather has helped. Some big cucumbers, orange tomatoes from a volunteer, zucchini and squash, and a bumper crop of marigolds... I've actually cut out a dozen or more of them from that bed but the peppers are recovering from whatever they had going on too late to do anything now. Saving some pole bean seeds too!

  20. A quotation from Cicero

MARCUS: As a field, though fertile, cannot yield a harvest without cultivation, no more can the mind without learning.

[Ut ager quamvis fertilis sine cultura fructuosus esse non potest, sic sine doctrina animus.]

Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC) Roman orator, statesman, philosopher
    Tusculan Disputations [Tusculanae Disputationes], Book 2, ch. 5 (2.5) / sec. 13 (2.13) (45 BC) [tr. Peabody (1886)]

  21. Anyway, this is how coffee looks in the #garden ☕ As you can see, the beans are still green, meaning they are not yet ready for #harvest. Soon they will turn red, which shows they are ready to be picked, and We will also show you that stage.

So if you love coffee but don’t know the first process before it reaches your cup hhhh 😄 follow this thread and let’s learn together.

And please… coffee does not start from supermarkets 😂

  27. Dude! No, it's not what you might think, it's sweet annie (Artemisia annua) that grows nearly as weeds in the garden but, as I get high demand for it from friends, I've collected and am now drying for storage roughly 10 kg of it on a 1 x 1 m tarp. I mean, that's a lot of medicinal, herbal tea!! We also won't need any incense in the house for the foreseeable future, I'm sure 😂 (I find its smell pleasant though).
