Having a bit of a think, and I know that there are knowledgeable people lurking around here.
Most survival horrors games are set in isolated locations, its what makes the escape plan of it so challenging. It's not a simple matter of just nopeing out of the situation. Walking into the sunset and it being someone else's problem. It's a well trodden but reliable trope.
Resident Evil 2 takes that location, and makes it a whole city. Silent Hill makes it a town.
This got me thinking, was Resident Evil 2 the first game to present a large area as the isolated location for which you must survive the horror? Even though, the game only takes place in handful of locations.
I am not including Shiryou Sensen War of the Dead in this, on the grounds that I am being picky and would question the survival horror credentials of the game.

Now that I've refinished Bad Company 2, I think it would be cool to get into something outside my comfrot zone, so now I've started #CurseTheEyeofIsis a #survivalhorror game with mummies; I find it interesting how despite their origin being in horror movies, such creatures are never used as actual terror inducing monsters, instead being relegated to action enemies or even comedies
