My new passion - Chinese calligraphy. Not sure what I am going to do with it, but the poetry I have read doing this is intensely beautiful. So one day I will probalby be a mediocre Chinese calligrapher. But I am sure it will bleed into my other art somehow.
This is from a poem, 2300 years old, from a time where the characters I have used here was not even in use yet. They wrote the bronze age script of Chu where this poet came from - a side form of proto Chinese written on bamboo strips.
The Communist party has decided that the glorious past should again awake the spirit of nationalist patriotism - as all power people these days seem to default to. So Qu Yuan (屈原) is now called a patriot who lost his country. The poetry shames every nationalist in the world. It is a long poem - this is just the opening line. Half the opening line, actually. It ends with the character 兮 - a magical and rhythmic breath out, that is in the middle of every line.
The words mean something like:
"Since my youth, I have loved these wondrous/unusual garments - xī"
