  1. Kemi Badenoch’s maiden speech in the Commons

I am also burdened by the weight of expectation. You see, Madam Deputy Speaker, Saffron Walden has not had a maiden speech since Rab Butler’s in 1929. He held three of the great offices of state, but I am most proud that, as a Conservative Minister, he introduced the Education Act 1944, which gave every British child a statutory right to free secondary education.

  2. The Invisible Invasion: Britain’s Immigration Panic and the Arithmetic It Cannot Face By Lawson Akhigbe

Black people account for roughly four percent of the population of England and Wales. More of them are in the EastEnders cast than are arriving on the asylum route in any given year. Yet Britain has contrived to make this the defining political question of the age. We should talk about that.

  3. The People Did Vote for Mass Immigration – Through Parliament by Lawson Akhigbe

One of the most persistent slogans of Britain’s political far right is the claim that “the people did not vote for mass immigration.” It is a phrase repeated endlessly in television studios, social media posts, and political rallies. It sounds persuasive. It sounds democratic. It is also fundamentally wrong.

  4. The ICC’s Selective Blindfold: Sharp Justice for Africans, Soft Landing for the Powerful by Lawson Akhigbe

For years the International Criminal Court has operated like a colonial-era court with better stationery and a more solemn logo. The docket groaned under the weight of African cases while the architects of certain adventures in Libya, Iraq, and beyond somehow remained mysteriously unburdened by the same enthusiastic pursuit of accountability. The rule of law, we were solemnly told, was universal. The application, it turned out, was rather more exclusive.

  5. UK anti-immigration social media accounts traced to Sri Lanka and Vietnam ByMarianna Spring

The "Great British People" Facebook page, which purports to be from Yorkshire, has had 1.3 million views for its latest video of an elderly white British man crying about his pension. Other videos show reporters discussing "the overwhelming scale of mass immigration" and asking viewers if they miss "the Britain we used to know".

  6. How King Leopold II Of Belgium Killed 10 Million Africans In The Congo – Harrowing Details

King Leopold II of Belgium laid claim to the Congo and declared it his territory while exerting physical threats to the indigenous people of the Congo (Kongo). He declared the people and the land to be his property, and he quickly turned the country into a moneymaking venture for himself and his throne.

  7. The Law Is a Blunt Instrument by Lawson Akhigbe

In the fearful months and years following the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, Western democracies faced an unenviable dilemma. Their citizens demanded protection from an enemy that recognised no borders, wore no uniforms and deliberately targeted civilians.

  8. Irish War of Independence vs Irish Civil War: What’s the Difference? By Fearghal Fitzgibbon

The War of Independence followed on from the unsuccessful Easter Rising in 1916. While the Rising had little support from the Irish population, the British crackdown hardened public opinion against British rule. Subsequent events such as the Conscription Crisis helped Sinn Féin, an Irish nationalist party, to a landslide victory in the 1918 general election. Establishing their own parliament, Dáil Éireann, they declared independence while the Irish Republican Army (IRA) fought a guerrilla campaign across the island.

When social engagement, including #empathy, is overwhelmed and causes unnatural #fear and even #hatred, #humanity is sidelined.

  15. A quotation from The Bible

Can people hold on to their anger
against others, and then look for healing from the Lord?
Can they refuse to have mercy
       on people like themselves,
and then pray about their own sins?
If they, who are just flesh,
       hold on to anger,
       who will secure pardon
       for their own sins?

    [ἄνθρωπος ἀνθρώπῳ συντηρεῖ ὀργήν,
       καὶ παρὰ κυρίου ζητεῖ ἴασιν;
ἐπ᾽ ἄνθρωπον ὅμοιον αὐτῷ οὐκ ἔχει ἔλεος,
       καὶ περὶ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτοῦ δεῖται;
    αὐτὸς σὰρξ ὢν διατηρεῖ μῆνιν,
       τίς ἐξιλάσεται τὰς ἁμαρτίας αὐτοῦ;]

  17. The Economy of Fear: How Kidnapping Became a Business Model in Nigeria by Lawson Akhigbe

The uncomfortable reality is that kidnapping in Nigeria increasingly resembles a functioning market. In this market, fear is the currency, human beings are the commodities, and safety has become a product available only to those who can afford to buy it.

  18. KARMA-FREE TRUMP 💎

Donald Trump does not need to be hated in order to be seen clearly.

There is no need to imagine that #karma will #punish him.

No need to turn him into the #supernatural embodiment of #evil
No need to diagnose his soul.

His vanity, grievance, cruelty, #fear ,appetite, and enormous need for #attention are serious enough.

#Hatred does not improve our #perception.

    It distorts it.

It makes the hated person larger, darker, and more #powerful in the #mind than they already are.

It also gives them permanent residence in the #nervous #system.

Trump should be opposed when he lies, harms, corrupts, intimidates, degrades institutions, or participates in or encourages cruelty.

    That opposition can be #firm.

    It should be relentless.

It can name exactly what is happening.

    But hatred is not required.

    Nor is #spiritual #fantasy.

No one knows what happens to Donald Trump after #death.

No one knows whether the #universe keeps a #punishment #ledger.

What is known, though, is that actions have consequences here.

    People are harmed.

    Truth is weakened.

    Fear spreads.

    #Cowardice becomes #contagious.

But cruelty does not have to set the terms.

#Kindness as strength can be encouraged in the face of cruelty.

#Courage in the face of intimidation.

#Truth in the face of deception.

#Decency in the face of degradation.

Restraint in the face of vengeance.

#Clarity in the face of confusion.

The task is not to hate the man.

The task is to see clearly, speak plainly, protect those being harmed, and refuse to let cruelty decide who we become.

  19. IS Responds to Military Pressure in Nigeria

Despite Nigeria's assessment, the emerging consensus was that Lakurawa was not a unified entity but rather an umbrella term, and that attacks attributed to the group were likely perpetrated by a mix of Islamic State Sahel Province (ISSP). JNIM, bandits. and potentially a separate new group operating under the label without claiming responsibility.

  20. Major Chip Hazard Goes to Washington: When Toy Soldiers Run the War Department by Lawson Akhigbe

Donald Trump’s return to the White House marked the triumph of image over expertise. Cabinet positions increasingly resembled casting decisions. Loyalty became more important than experience. Television skills became more valuable than administrative competence.

  22. The Karma of the Beautiful Game: How Spain’s 2026 Victory Rewrote the Script for Trump and the Aggies

In many ways, Spain’s 2026 triumph stands as a glorious, inescapable metaphor for what happens when performative ego, systemic meddling, and brute gamesmanship run smack into the unyielding wall of competence and poise.

  23. The Art of the Political Seance: How to Deconstruct a Presidential Address by Lawson Akhigbe

When Donald Trump took to the podium on July 16, 2026, he wasn’t just delivering a speech he was conducting a political seance, summoning ghosts of conspiracies past and layering them over a very meticulously curated reality.

  24. The Trump World by Lawson Akhigbe

There is a particular cruelty in a medical report. Unlike a political speech, a budget forecast, or an election manifesto all genres of creative literature to which democratic publics have made a resigned peace a medical report carries with it the residual authority of science. When a doctor speaks, we are conditioned, in some prelinguistic way, to believe them. Which is precisely why what has happened to American presidential medicine under Donald Trump is so arresting. The clinic has been converted into a theatre, the stethoscope swapped for a megaphone, and the diagnosis subordinated entirely to the demands of the narrative.
