Watched #TheSocialReckoning and realised that I'm not a very typical social media user even before joining the Fediverse because:
a) I don't bother clicking on "like" nor do I care if people like my damn posts
b) I actually go directly to news outlets for my news and don't get them on social media
c) If FB or any social media recommends groups to me, my immediate reaction is, "eff you I'm not going there"
d) I find scrolling social media feed the most annoying thing on the planet and prefer scrolling the folks I follow
e) I'm an RSS blog reader all the way. As old fashion as you can get
f) In general I'm not interested in people's lives or what they think and I don't really enjoy sharing my life nor do I want to most of the timeAlthough I still have FB, Instagram, Tiktok, Threads accounts I use them to check on urgent news (aka volcanoes erupting or something).
My weakness, however, remains to be Youtube, but I usually just click on my Subscribed tab and watch what's there. Again, I use Youtube mostly to search for specific news and usually ignore what they recommend.
Anyway, I really liked the movie. I really resonate with its message about moderating content on social media - mostly because I've seen impacts on FB's lack of moderation.
I'm honestly still pissed off that FB never bothered to take action after FB posts sparked the Roningya genocide but only bothered after the Capitol Hill riots because it directly impacted their geography.
