In a victory for #ReligiousFreedom [& #FreedomFromReligion] & #ChurchAndState separation, a federal district court issued a preliminary injunction today in Rabbi Nathan v. Alamo Heights Independent School District, prohibiting the school district defendants from implementing a #Texas #law that requires all elementary & secondary #PublicSchools to display the #TenCommandments in every classroom.

The #Trump administration is siding with a #Louisiana #SchoolDistrict that says it should be released from decades-old #desegregation orders that some advocates say are still needed to address racial disparities.
In a motion filed Friday, the DOJ & the #ConcordiaParish #SchoolBoard agreed to dismiss a 1960s case that required the small district to integrate its #PublicSchools. Court orders have remained in place to address lingering impacts of #segregation.

On the day before Sukkot break, my children came home with a flier for a community sukkah hop sponsored by Abulafia Elementary.
This isn't the first year we've received such a flier, and each year my children beg to participate.
I don't think it's appropriate for #PublicSchools to be sponsoring events for #religious #holidays.
I am tired of explaining to my kids that we don't build a #sukkah because #Sukkot is a #Jewish #holiday and we aren't Jewish.
