Het nieuwe jaar begint koud, glad en mogelijk wit. In het binnenland is morgen de kans op een witte wereld het grootst, terwijl je in de kustprovincies wel winterse buien ziet, maar de neerslag niet blijft liggen. Wel kan het dus overal glad worden.

Alleen in een dunne laag vlak bij de grond is het momenteel koud met lichte vorst. Op 250 meter hoogte is het +4°C. Dat is de reden waarom er uit de buitjes in het westen van Vlaanderen regen valt en geen sneeuw.
In combinatie met de vrieskou aan de grond zorgt dat lokaal wel voor erg gladde wegen (en andere oppervlakten).
