  1. So, I was looking for something new to play, and I think I have found something i need to play just from the box art alone.

Super Valis 4's North American box art is, dare I say, absolutely peak.

I should probably check out the whole Valis series, so i am more putting this out as a warning, I may be waxing lyrically or ranting profanely for the next couple of weeks about this series... Depending on how things go.

Let's get back into the box art however. That, almost 80s, high fantasy inspired female character getting ready to attack a tiger that is leaping at her and breathing fire. The tiger is also being ridden by some metallic figure. It's a powerful image, and I say that with little sarcasm.
It makes me think about the Alisia Dragoon international box art.

  2. Today I looked it up and I am convinced: #StarFox is a #shmup.

In both #StarFox and classic #ShootEmUps like #RType, the #player controls the same two axes, left, right, up and down. The #game moves you forward automatically in both cases, whether the screen scrolls sideways or into the depth.

A true "rail #shooter" would be something like #VirtuaCop, where you have zero movement #control and only aim. #StarFox gives you full freedom on two axes. The label "rail shooter" is simply inaccurate.

#StarFox is a #3D shmup. That is all.

I'm finally playing Super Famicom Wars and am absolutely loving it!

  9. Star Fox does not get nearly enough credit. 🦊 🐸 🎮

In this clip from the Direct Recap Show, Edward Varnell and I discuss how Star Fox on SNES helped push 3D forward in ways people often overlook.

We talk about the FX chip, its technical achievements, and how it influenced later Nintendo 64-era design, even if the game itself does not always get the recognition it deserves.

  16. Review for Sonic Blast Man 2 on Super Nintendo.
Taken from Super Play 23 - September 1994 (UK)

Not used to Super Play for reviews like this, but yeah, this one is a total miss.
Not only is Sonic Blastman 2 way better than the first one, I can barely even call this a review.
Reminds me of some Total! drivel...
Really weird to see this from them.
