  1. What used to be made as large-scale, professional productions can now be the product of a single hobby developer. Tools, frameworks have progressed significantly. Plus, when you re-use an older game's design, this saves a ton of time as well, obviously. #AgeOfAnts is one such #demake.

  2. Received my copy of #Penult in #cartridge form today. It's a #demake of #ultima for the #Atari2600, an #OpenWorld #RPG, I'm amazed that a game like this can run on my original 1977 #VideoGame machine. It was cutting edge to run Ultima on an #apple2 when it first came out in 1981. It even comes with an official cloth map. Super cool, thanks to #AtariAge and the developer. Maybe I should get it running in VR :-) Does anyone know where I can get an #Atarivox so I can save my game.

  3. I had a period of great progress on my #Gameboy Geometry Wars demake. After the first enemy, collision detection, and respawn cycles were added I put it on real hardware.

    Suddenly I was very demoralized. It was not fun. I could see that all the ideas I had to replace twin stick shooter controls were either not going to work, or not lead to a game that felt like Geometry Wars.

    I have some good base code for an original game, so I'm figuring out a new direction.

  4. Plenty of bullets now in my Gameboy game.

    This is a demake of Geometry Wars, which is a twin stick shooter - you may have noticed that the Gameboy does not have twin sticks. ➕ 🔴🔴

    But I have some ideas for that to try out, either before or after I make the first enemies. I'm starting to get the hang of the hardware and thinking in assembly now, and I have more reusable functions. Progress!

  5. Geometry Wars Gameboy demake update:

    After the kids are in bed I might get two hours where I have the brain function to get stuck into assembly coding. When I hit a problem bigger than two hours I get stuck for a while. This was the case moving specific movement and render code I wrote for the player to be more generic for entities including bullets and enemies. Now I'm unstuck this is looking more like a game.

  7. There's a small #jam called #pico1k going on right now, where you make #pico8 games in 1,024 (compressed) bytes or less.

    I decided to do a #demake of sorts. I took the essential bits of my newest game, Apathello, and whittled them down into this #1k cartridge. I call it Kilothello.
