One of the early uses of NoteCards was supporting the writing process such as taking notes, maintaining bibliographies, and outlining. This 1987 paper reported on how writers used the NoteCards hypertext system of Interlisp-D.

I did computer building and repair at small independent computer stores for many years. I saw all kinds of different contaminants accumulate to ridiculous degrees inside computer chassis - dust, dirt, bugs, hair, the sticky yellow creosote-like cigarette smoke residue - but kitty litter dust would be a new one on me.
Yikes.
The capacitor plague of the very late 90s through to the early-mid 2010s was a real pain in the ass for anyone who keeps electronics for more than a few years. We're still replacing leaky and blown-up caps in that equipment 😜

I’ve gone completely Ga Ga for Gopher.
I started a real Gopher server for NITETIME.NET and it’s quickly turning into one of my favorite parts of the whole project.
If you have a Gopher client:
If you’re stuck here in the modern web:
It’s growing almost daily.

Windows: Amiga Retro Toolbox
The "Amiga Retro Toolkit" (ART) is a program for Windows 10 and 11. You can drag and drop ADF, HDF, LHA, ROM and other files into its window, and it will then identify the file type and determine what it can do with it.

Amiga emulator in Rust: Copperline 0.16.0 (web app, macOS and Windows)
Version 0.16.0 of Copperline, an Amiga emulator written in Rust by @LinuxJedi can launch WHDLoad games directly from their archives, as well as newly created Amiga executable files from the host file system - a feature intended for developers of new Amiga programs.

Amiga-style operating system: Ultimate Amiga OS (UAOS)
Stephen Bancroft's UAOS is an operating system for x86_64 computers that is still in its early stages of development and is modeled after the Amiga Workbench interface. An M68k emulation, which is already in place in its basic form, can run simple programs; full custom chip emulation and the ability to run complex Amiga programs are planned.

All issues resolved. The 40MHz 68030 accelerator is installed and working in the A2000.
Here's a victory video of Black Lotus' 2019 OCS/ECS Amiga scenedemo 'Eon'. I am unsure if anyone will get the irony of this video, but the spark of that irony is what motivated this CPU upgrade from the Commodore 68020 board I was running before.

Been working on a project for a bit with AI due to limited hands on time.
Essentially a simulated ship running in GoDot emulating different CPU types. With a fully functional Debian instance in the ship.
The server side runs runs in my k8s cluster, with the universe being run from there and easily scalable.
Not something that will ever be released, but for fun for me.

(Yes, could probably run Nethack over ax25...)

In a bout of early-mid 2000s nostalgia (thanks @thomholwerda ), I pulled my Palm m125 PDA out of its box on the shelf, popped in some AAA batteries, and was met with a flickering setup screen. Crap. Took it apart expecting to find a delaminated or disconnected display ribbon cable, instead I found the two coin cell capacitors were both leaking.
Thankfully they hadn't leaked onto the board yet, just themselves; praise be to the board designers who wisely installed them "upside down" so the seal was facing up and contained the leaks. I quickly got them desoldered and found that they are still made in the correct form factor with solder tabs already spot welded to them. The replacements should be here in a month.
I also found some broken plastic inside the housing, but that's expected on a relatively inexpensive piece of tech from nearly 25 years ago. Nothing a little Loctite super glue can't fix.

Having hit a bit of a wall for the moment (partly due to lack of SMD components on hand matching a few that might be in question), I decided to pose my question on the VCFED forums where I've seen some other good PX-8 discussions from recent years.
I just wrote it up and posted if anyone wants to follow or read the details and offer (here or there) undoubtedly better informed thoughts on the matter. :)

Had an hour free here, so I socketed the other identical hex inverter IC, tested it (good) and then swapped it for the one in question. Same behavior. So I'd say both of those ICs are fine and my issue is elsewhere.
I pulled a theory out of my nethers that perhaps the reference signal coming into pin 7 of that IC from the oscillator is below a threshold since the inverted output that should be on pin 6 is just a constant v5.
Again, this is me speculating as I learn.

Photo from a moment of delight Friday at @hopeconf in which I reunited with a very old childhood friend: the TRS-80 Color Computer 2, which was my very first computer. Also pictured: this CoCo's owner Strick, a really cool dude who does amazing work expanding the old machine's capabilities. I'm so happy these things are still being hacked around with.

I’ve been hearing stories about people finding Macs in the garbage for years. Last week was finally my lucky day. I’ve only had time to check that it boots — it asks for a keyboard. Soon I’ll check the rest. It will make a great drawing station for the kids.

🎉 Ah, behold the pinnacle of technology: a 1963 "computer" made of plastic and rubber bands! 🤖 Clearly, this relic of a bygone era was the precursor to the sophisticated calculators we now call our smartphones. 🕰️ Why watch a video about it? Because #nostalgia is the only thing more outdated than this contraption. 😂

@HailsandAles I'm not a fan of typewriters - I had to use them when I went to school. And we couldn't have one of those fancy electric typewriters - ours was a manual monster that you had to beat up in order to get anything out of it. Good work out though!
OTOH, anything that sparks your creativity is a good thing in my estimation. I prefer to write on my 1987 Macintosh SE computer because it's super simple and has no Internet! It sparks joy in me to use it.

Ich restauriere gerade einen #Amstrad bzw. #Schneider #CPC 6128. Gibt's da Sachen, auf die man besonders achten sollte? Also vom Riemen im Floppy abgesehen, der immer getauscht werden muss..?

RE: https://emalliab.wordpress.com/2026/08/16/zx-spectrums-part-4/
I've got another ZX Spectrum up and running. This needed a keyboard replacement and comp mod, but then had the weird property that it would boot and pass all diagnostics when running from a diag card with external ROM, but wouldn't boot properly from the internal ROM. Turns out there was a broken track in the ULA /ROMCS link somewhere and the internal ROM was always switched out.
