Hired Guns AGA: una versión inédita sale a la luz
Games That Weren’t ha publicado nuevos detalles sobre una versión inédita de Hired Guns, el conocido título de acción y rol desarrollado por DMA Design y publicado por Psygnosis. Esta edición fue desarrollada para aprovechar las capacidades de los Amiga AGA y la CD32, aunque nunca llegó a comercializarse.
El proyecto fue desarrollado por Scott Johnston, programador del juego original, durante su tiempo libre. La versión mejorada incorporaba gráficos en 256 colores, nuevos efectos de sonido, armas adicionales, una nueva introducción, menús rediseñados y un sistema de iluminación que aportaba mayor profundidad a los escenarios.
También se experimentó con características específicas de la CD32, incluyendo el control mediante mando, aunque esta adaptación quedó incompleta. El prototipo conserva numerosos elementos funcionales, pero todavía presenta errores y partes sin terminar.
La investigación de Games That Weren’t incluye una entrevista con Steve Hammond, guionista original de Hired Guns, que aporta información sobre el desarrollo y la historia del proyecto. Hammond explica además cómo consiguió conservar los archivos de desarrollo de Johnston después de que este abandonara la plataforma.
Entre el material preservado se encuentran documentos de diseño, gráficos, bocetos, información sobre armas y material relacionado con el manual. El prototipo y los archivos de desarrollo pueden descargarse actualmente a través de Internet Archive. -
