  1. jgenesis Release v0.12.1

    Sega Genesis / Sega CD / SNES / Master System / Game Gear emulator - Release v0.12.1 · jsgroth/jgenesis
    Mostly-bugfix release for v0.12.0

This release fixes a regression in v0.12.0 that caused turbo input mappings to not work properly; in v0.12.0 they behaved the same as non-turbo mappings.

This release also includes changes to where the emulator stores its settings files on Windows. They are now generally stored in a user profile-level directory by default rather than in the emulator directory, so settings will be automatically shared between different copies of the emulator in different directories (it already worked this way on other platforms). It is possible to restore the old Windows behavior if desired, see the full changelog below.

Save states are not compatible with previous versions.

  2. This #FreeCADFriday I present you an enclosure design for my SEGA8 Programmer (a programmer for flash based SEGA #MasterSystem and #GameGear cartridges). I also designed a TPU cover to avoid dust entering the Game Gear port while unused. STL and #FreeCAD design files available on #Printables: printables.com/model/1703783-s

  3. Third place: "GLUF Tesla Frog" for the #SEGA #MasterSystem and the #GameGear 🥉
    (by Tony&Co)

In this game you control a frog named Gluf, and just like the electric car, Gluf can charge energy from places marked with battery symbols. You need the power to activate the circuits in the floor, but you can only charge enough power to activate 10 circuits, so if you need to activate more, then you will need to recharge.

  5. Bartman Meets Radioactive Man with Tommy Proffit (Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge, Distant Echoes)

Springfield’s favorite menace trades his skateboard for spandex in Bartman Meets Radioactive Man, and somehow the result ended up on both the NES and Game Gear. Whether it’s justice or just pure mayhem, this is one crossover nobody asked for but we’re glad to have anyway.

But Chris can’t do this along, so he’s joined by the always enlightening Tommy Proffitt from Distant Echos and Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge. Together they unravel what happens when cartoon superheroes meet 8-bit hardware and common sense takes a vacation.

So grab your cape, your slingshot, and your best “Eat my shorts” energy, because things are about to get weird, nostalgic, and slightly irradiated. Just like Bart would’ve wanted.

    Learn such things as:

    • How has The Simpsons secretly wormed its was into your everyday life?
    • What happens when you have such a character driven franchise and use hardly any of them at all?
    • Were the Radioactive Man comics just a testing ground for future characters?
    • And so much more!

You can find Tommy on Bluesky @awkwardcomma, and his podcasts Distant Echoes and Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge.

The next episode is going to be Sailor Moon Another Story, so get your thoughts ready and over to me if you want to hear them in the show.

You can find Play Comics @playcomics.bsky.social on Bluesky, @playcomicspodcast on Threads, @playcomics on YouTube, or the Play Comics website.

If you want to hear Chris talk with Karrington Martin about the lessons we learned from children’s media and how crazy it is that we’re supposed to just forget about that now that we’re adults, then Sugar, Spite, and Everything is Fine is probably something you should check out.

A big thanks to The Glitter Jaw Queer Podcast Collective and Gender Pop for the promos today.

  11. Before I forget, a full playthrough of Coca-Cola Kid is now available on my YouTube Channel.

I should note that #IshambardPlays and #IshambardPresents will not feature the same content, it just so happens that the last two presents and plays are both things I wanted to play and write about.

I am hoping that in the next day or so, I will get the full "Presents" write-up on my blog, as that is the plan. In fact, as I type this, I am about 1,600 words deep into talking Coca-Cola Kid, and only 25% of that is unrelated to the game! I promise.

Also, I should note that there is a bit of an error in my narration during the Let's Play, I mention that Cokey, the Coca-Cola Kid was a mascot in Japan. But when I recently tried to fact check that i couldn't find any information on it.

I will make a note of this in the video description when I am back at my recording desk!
