RE: https://the.voiceover.bar/@kayeluvian/116947493692676976
RetroArch has lost my saved game, because we changed to disk 2. I tried renaming the .srm files to match Disk 2, but that just seems to have permanently broken it. Lost most of today's progress and that is just really really disappointing. Such a waste of time, and makes me feel very stupid. Don't suppose any #RetroArch wizards on here know some magic or something?

I created a game pad "snap-in" that replaces the keyboard, thanks to a donor 8bitdo Zero 2 Bluetooth game pad. Works great with retroarch!

@AndyGER Batocera is very specialized in being an Emulation or RetroGaming OS built around #retroarch and #EmulationStation. It won’t replace a general purpose OS.
But if you are fine with that… … go for it! 😄

Trimmed down my #retrogaming library today. I'm a player, not a collector, so there's no purpose in having lots of ROMs that I don't really care about; it's just distracting more than anything. I also cleaned up a lot of my #RetroArch settings and configs.

okay, i'm looking at it now, and the #retroarch controversies tended to be associated with someone named "twinaphex", who doesn't seem to actively work on it anymore? maybe they changed nicknames, iunno, but looking at people who work on retroarch now, i can't find them

i'll be honest, the idea of "fuck it, let's use #retroarch" is becoming very attractive, even though i also know that its main dev is an asshole
the idea of having an emulator that just picks up gamepads instead of having me set them up manually (like with #mednafen or #ares) is very appealing

Saturday morning project: A from scratch fresh install of 1993's MS-DOS CD-ROM version of Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers, playable with DOSBox-core in the RetroArch emulator. Applied the official patch GKCDPAT.ZIP and the GK1CD_NRS.ZIP bugfix released by NewRisingSun. Sure, one could install this from GOG or Steam, but seriously, where's the fun in that? This is one of the best Sierra On-Line games ever made, full stop.

In converting my arcade machine from Windows to CachyOS to NixOS, I discovered that #NixOS does not have some of my needed libretro cores, so time to start trying to contribute. Submitted a pull request for the pokemini core as a start. Got plans for a few more missing cores I need soon after.
Maybe some more emulators coming a little bit later once I get a few commits to nixpkgs under my belt.

People make #emulation wayyy too complicated with things like Emulation Station or RetroPie.
Seriously, just install #LinuxMint (any x86-64 machine less than a decade old should do just fine), and when that's done, install #retroarch .Now you have a great program for emulating, on an otherwise general use OS that behaves in predictable and easy-to-use ways. Want to add more ROMS? Open Firefox and search. Put them in a folder. Done.
