  1. What would a good exhibition be without explanatory displays for visitors? Just a brief history of the very big and the very small. Sorry, it's German ;)

  2. Compared to the #IMSAI8080, this surprising exhibit clearly demonstrates the miniaturization. The two will be standing side by side on Saturday—after all, they share the same CPU core :) And I always get a fright when the dinosaur comes stomping by.

  3. Our #Kneiser #M100 is packed and ready for exhibition at #RetroGamesCon in the old riding hall #Soltau on Saturday, September 6th. So, if you happen to be there, feel free to come and check it out at our table. I'll definitely try to get a chess program for it so that the incredible 4 MHz #Z80 power can do some serious computing.

  4. @maxleibman

It uses LEDs to display the address and data busses, has toggle switches to select an address and enter a byte there. Once I’ve entered a 3-byte JMP instruction to the ROM I select the address of the first byte and toggle the spring-loaded GO button ;-)

  5. Playing around with #z80pack, a proper emulation of #Altair8080 and #Imsai8080. I never got it to work on Windows, because I couldn't get to grips with the complexity of CygWin's dependencies. On #Debian, a simple "make clean" and "make all" is enough. And the Imsai simulator starts with its graphical control panel.

  6. What a beauty the #KneisnerM100 has become. My daily work would be called "case modding" nowadays ;) It literally appears in a completely different light now ;) Tomorrow I'll be working on the expansion box, so after a year and a half, I can tick off this exciting project.
If any of you are coming to the HNF in Paderborn in October: The current plan is to bring it to the RCT at 11th & 12th of October 2025.

  7. This is the first exklusive preview to the new housing of the #KneisnerM100. A German relabeled #Imsai8080.
Last steps to do is to mount all components properly and some electrical wiring for fan aso.

  8. New IMSAI 8080 reproduction CP-A (Control Panel Kit). This kit is highly accurate to the original kit from IMSAI back in the mid 1970s. You can use the original IMSAI manual to assemble it.

If you are doing a CP-A restoration we also offer switch, LEDs, hardware and components to aid in your restoration.

    These are actively shipping!

  9. New IMSAI 8080 reproduction cabinet, serial number 30001. This is a full size backwards compatible cabinet with the original IMSAI 8080 from the mid 1970s. Sales should open in a couple of weeks.

  10. First engineering phase and secondly manufacturing phase are done. The top frame for the acrylic glas and the painting in matte black are the next steps to be done.

  11. Design export picture of the new case for the #IMSAI8080 clone called #KneisnerM100. Only have to order the acrylic glas at weekend.

  12. #Wargames - My favorite #movie of all time. With the #Mega65 version for the Wargames simulator I can be David Lightman myself.

    files.mega65.org/html/main.php

Copied it onto a 3.5" #floppy to run on the mega. It's simulating David's #IMSAI8080 and #CPM with dialers and everything!

It's a game to be played on an #8bit machine for sure!

  13. Looking through our store of MFM harddisks to find a compatible one, which is bigger as 5MB. Found one Rodtime RO-204, but with bearing damage. Horrible loud and not so reliable at the end. Searching ended with Seagate ST-412 which is with 10MB big enough for the needs of a #Z80 system with a TPA of ~44 kB driven.

  14. Additional news about the #IMSAI8080 clone. Boot from HDD is the past and done. But booting from A: with GOTEK FlashFloppy as 5" ~800k is the next step of evolution. I also connected the original #TVI912C terminal for best compatibility.
On Saturday I'll look for a bigger compatible Winchester drive. Maybe there is something in stock to pimp it up a bit.

  15. What a great day, our #Kneisner #m100, a German #Imsai8080 clone, has made it's first boot without a loaded diskette after a few seconds of waiting.
For testing purposes I used a Seagate ST-225, which full capacity isn't used at the moment. I've to figure out how to handle the drives parameters in #TurboDOS reasonable. Maybe it is impossible, but does not care at the end.

  16. After over a year of continuous investigations, tests, measurements, repairs and absolutely active help from the USA, our #Kneisner #M100 is now booting #turboDOS from a floppy disk.
It still has a few quirks with its front panel. But the next step will be to try to boot it from D.Gesswein's MFM emulator from a known working HD image. To see whether the WD hard disk controller and the IMS controller card are still working properly.
The whole thing is now a "once in a lifetime" project for me. What I wasn't aware of until now is that the #IMSAI8080 will be 50 years old this year.

  17. Sometimes I'll show a picture of a #vintage computer to my wife and she does that drooling sound that Homer Simpson does when he sees a doughnut; she's got a thing for really heavy, clunky keys and switches. Years ago we visited the computer museum in Cambridge here in the UK and she was pressing everything in delight.

Anyway, some browsing today, and you can buy a kit for a replica IMSAI 8080 front over more modern equipment. Looks great.

  18. OK, desoldering worth it's work. Apart from the one broken conductor line on IC 2, I was also able to discover a broken 7400N and a defective 74107N with the incredibly practical #RCT. This is one of the most useful tools in my equipment. Two other identical types were tested as good. And as it must be, I haven't any replacement in the moment. But it is ordered.

  19. Just to give you an update. After I had nicely soldered new LEDs into the #Imsai8080 clone front panel, it completely stopped working yesterday. So I took advantage of today, Sunday, to desolder all the TTL ICs and replace them with sockets. And you won't believe what I found there. Someone had already tried to repair something there before me. This was evident from the fact that IC 2 was a 74LS type, unlike all the others without LS. And a socket was soldered in for IC 14. In the pictures you can see what was hidden underneath. I think the cut between pin 4 and pin 11 looks intentional, though. But not the missing line to pin 1. I haven't checked what the lines are for in detail. But it certainly doesn't contribute to the function if they aren't connected. It has now been neatly repaired with short wires. And I will get completely new ICs, all standard types. Also I have to check whether it is not a deliberate mod, but IC 2 (first pic) doesn't look like that imho.

  20. Can you guess my evening work?
As I told I printed new caps for the switches. And there are few left, so if you miss single ones on your #IMSAI8080 don't be afraid to contact me.
