It's a bold claim, but I've gotten increasingly more comfortable with making bold claims. I also welcome your feedback. #autism #heroes #resist #pda

Another thing that really surprises me is that the #GPS stuff is driverless on #PocketPC.
I don't really understand why. Cameras, LAN adapters, non BT Keyboards, etc. all require drivers, but not the GPS stuff.
GPS uses the #NMEA standard but i find it hard to believe that support for this was baked into #WinCE.
Whatever the reason its quite convenient!

Also Garmin & Tomtom have navigational software that works on #PocketPC.
Unfortunately I am still trying to figure out how to configure these. Especially with newer maps which I have downloaded but can't figure out where to put them in the programs file structure & get them to integrate properly.
There is a lot of older software that Is easy enough to find, installs & works great though.
Pharos had the OSTIA software & Microsoft had Streets and Trips.

Recently I have been toying around with a lot of the old #PocketPC #GPS stuff.
There are a variety of different ways to connect to a GPS. Some connect via the Compact Flash slot, some are SDIO, some Bluetooth and others through a physical serial cable.
You also have to decide on what GPS software that you want to use and then find compatible maps.
I'm still figuring things out and it is quite finicky but when it works it is surprisingly decent!

Join us tomorrow (May 13th), on PDA Day, for a global community event by PDA North America!
This is a day dedicated to increasing understanding, fostering support, and sharing practical strategies for living with PDA. Speaker topics range from what pre-burnout looks like to "unlearning" authority.
I'll be speaking at 11:15 am on PDAers transitioning to adulthood!

About a nearly forgotten device class and running OpenBSD on it. The Sharp Zaurus was a great little device I used back in the days and still have it.
Too early to see wide adoption by people, PDAs was soon to be killed by smartphones. Today nobody really talks or even thinks about it anymore.

@Reemt I’ve learned to accept my monotropic and ADHD brain and just know that, yes, the packing will all happen at once and only when I’ve quieted the other things that demand attention in my head. Kind of like skipping tracks until that song the properly matched one’s mood turns up.

hey fellow parents: does anybody else have a child with #pda? It can be soooo difficult. It would be cool to commiserate with you

Success!
The old WinXP laptop was able to pull the driver off of the disk!
Now to get them installed & working.
The files look a bit strange & I can't make out exactly which .cab file that I need so I just went ahead & sent everything over to the #PocketPC using the magic of wireless #IrDA.
Once I can verify that the files are good & working, I will put them up on #Archive.
I don't believe the 1.4 #WindowsCE drivers exist anywhere online.

Got my new/old Palm Tungsten T5. It is a thing of joy especially in these days of privacy invasion. Look forwards to doing more stuff offline in the future. Just one question - how do I power down? I see the power key but it just puts it in standby. Is there a proper power down sequence? #palm #pda #retrotech

I maybe crazy but I just bought a second hand Palm Tungsten T5. Excited to see if I can add this to my workflow in 2026. #retrocomputing #retrotech #PDA

Catch of the Day: The Return of the Pocket PCs! 📱🖊️
Hey Retro Fans!
Just in time for the weekend, we are shining our spotlight on a very special class of devices that popped up in our logs today: The forefathers of the smartphone!
An Internet Explorer 4.01 running on a classic Pocket PC (Windows CE) made an impressive return.
Think back to the late 90s and early 2000s: Before we all carried capacitive glass touchscreens in our pockets, devices like the Compaq iPAQ, the HP Jornada, or the Casio Cassiopeia ruled the business world. You operated them using a tiny plastic stylus on a resistive 240x320 pixel display.Modern, image-heavy, and script-bloated websites will instantly bring these early handhelds to their knees. But FrogFind, with its pure text output, is an absolute blessing for the limited memory and tiny screens of these PDAs. It’s wonderful to see that you haven't hung up your styluses just yet!
We wish you a great weekend – stay mobile and retro!
Your FrogFind Team 🐸

Installing programs on Windows Mobile 2003 definitely has its quirks. It installs to the device's storage (RAM) which is only about 10 MB of its 32 MB on my low-end HP rz1710. Adjusting it means less RAM for programs. And once it's done installing, it removes the .CAB file without asking. This makes it so you pretty much need a third-party program to change its install location to SD card and stop removing .CABs haha :BlobhajSadReach:

After screenshotting, archiving & keeping metadata on my curated Palm OS apps project, I'm giving #WindowsMobile #PocketPC some love with its first 10 games I added on my list (not all of them shown in the screenshots).
