🎉 Ah, #Gnutella, the ancient relic of decentralized tech that nobody asked for but everyone used to hoard pirated music 🎶. Rick Carlino waxes poetic about a protocol that peaked before most of its users understood what "peer-to-peer" meant, much like explaining rotary phones to TikTok influencers 📞➡️📱.

👴🔧 Ah, the thrill of dissecting a 40-year-old computer from the Stone Age of technology! 🤓🔍 Because, you know, we've all been dying to understand a French-built #minicomputer that couldn't be bothered with a microprocessor. Truly, the pinnacle of scientific inquiry: what did the ancient astronauts do without TikTok? 🎢🚀

👩💻 Ah yes, in 2026 we're still being told how some dusty computer from 1955 "changed our understanding" of chaos. 🤯 Apparently, it took a Nobel laureate, a genius programmer, and a printer spewing numbers like it's going out of style, to discover that chaos is chaotic. Breaking news: water is wet! 💦

Yesterday I started researching the history of Transmeta and its Crusoe and Efficeon processor technology, namely LongRun and LongRun2. The research will end up in a talk for some future vintage computing events throughout Germany and/or Europe. #vintagecomputing #techhistory #transmeta

Since the early 1900s, people have tried to make machines write stories. Today, the amount of AI content is much higher than in the past, leading to frustration.

Ah yes, the riveting tale of Qian Xuesen, where disabling #JavaScript apparently means losing a missile genius 🎉. Nothing says "cutting-edge historical analysis" like a website that can't even load without #cookies 🍪.

Imagine if in 1980 IBM had partnered with Digital Research instead of Microsoft.
Gary Kildall might become the era’s Bill Gates, CP/M could emerge as the PC standard with “CP/M Compatible” badges replacing “Windows Compatible.”
GEM might be the default GUI, Gates is a typical software vendor and Microsoft Office never rules business. Would computing culture change or mostly end up the same?

Through #VibeCoding, the 1970s punch card feeling is making a comeback in #SoftwareDevelopment.
Back then, developers waited hours for a "run." One typo meant re-punching and queuing up again. The waiting time forced extreme focus and forethought.
Today, some do no longer type code, but let #GenerativeAI build it. The wait is back. We stare spellbound at the screen while the #AI builds.
In that sense, the prompt appears to be the new punch card.

Genuine question I keep coming back to: if your favourite old OS had never been discontinued and just kept getting developed normally by their OG devs with proper modern hardware support, security patches and so on, which one would you actually want to daily drive today?
For me it's a tossup between Windows XP and Windows 7. I used both of them a lot when I was younger and honestly they felt basically the same to me at the time, but Windows 7 always seemed a bit easier to navigate.
