I know you all know this, but it's always useful to have names for concepts.

Agreed. Word list should only be used to ‘flag’ toots/instances for review, not to restrict use of language. Language is all we’ve got to relate to each other, curtail its flexibility ( censorship) and you impact relationships.I would‘t knowingly walk into a criminal gang’s hangout. If I strayed into one I would get the hell out very quickly and ‘flag it’ to all my friends. I would berate myself for not recognising it before I stepped in. And I would ‘ban’ myself from entering it ever again. This is how I navigate in the Fediverse, whether it is an individual or an instance, once I see it, recognise it, I block and pass on the information (call it out). On the whole, our admins and moderators do a pretty good job (I am grateful for their efforts). But ultimately, I am responsible for myself here.

How does a society that makes seat belts the law, bans the sale of lawn darts, and prevents kids from going to movies that have eff bombs, also tell everyone that they have to use #PersonalResponsibility to manage infection control when they go to a hospital or school?

I get where you're coming from.
We need to be careful putting blame on corporations, because that lets individuals off the hook.
Corporations are created by people and run by people. Corporations are not greedy. People are greedy. And it's not just the people running the corporations who are greedy. Greed is a human trait that does tremendous harm in every aspect of society.
I want corporations to be strictly regulated. Individuals need to want that enough to make it happen politically. And turning out for one presidential election won't do it. It takes masses of individuals educating themselves about *every* race at *every* level of government, and voting in *every* election. Getting people to do that is incredibly hard. We need to push hard on this front.
Also, *we* need to change *our* behavior with respect to fossil fuels and consumerism.
Individuals need to take responsibility for every aspect of climate change. People have the power.
