  1. PAUL DROTOS’ GUIDE FOR YOUR IMPROV JOURNEY

Your Improv Journey is Paul Drotos’ treatise meant for beginners, veterans and randos. It is an easy read and is relevant even when considering teamwork, community and art in general.

Improv is an art form where actors create scenes on the spot. In a show, troupes will usually have games they play with varying levels of audience input.

  6. I have always found it difficult to adopt a carefree attitude and just "go with the flow". When on holiday, it is more likely that I will create a detailed itinerary and obsess about visiting every possible attraction, regardless of whether this may be detrimental to my enjoyment. As ridiculous as it sounds, failure to do this can result in me feeling as if I have somehow failed to complete the task that I have assigned myself.

During this weekend's trip to Chester (which was a birthday present from my wonderful wife), however, the most enjoyable aspect was simply walking around without a plan or having to stick to times. There is an abundance of historical sites and impressive architecture in Chester, but I was happy to visit only what was convenient. Maybe there's hope for me yet 😃

  7. Look straight at the perfectionism

Ask yourself what perfect looks like. What are the specific elements? What’s on the checklist?

Procrustes will never have an answer to this question, but always a response along the lines of “I’ll know it when I see it.” That’s not good enough. He has no idea what perfection means! He’s exposed. He cannot meet his own standards. He’s in his bed. You know what to do. Grab your creative tools and get to work.

    ~ Boston Blake, from Perfectionism

I’ve long agreed with the sentiment that “I’ll know it when I see it” is bullshit. I’ve long thought that was because if one doesn’t know “what it should look like” then one doesn’t actually understand whatever it is we’re talking about judging. My thinking was focused on identifying whether or not I (or whomever) was capable of judging.

But this insight from Blake got me thinking about a more fundamental layer of judgement: If I (or whomever) is not capable of judging (as evidenced by espoused sheep dip like “I’ll know it when I see it”) then I shouldn’t even be involved in the judging. Which is also a powerful way to banish my own internal critic.

  31. Perfectionists when they meet the Nirvana fallacy. :P

The nirvana fallacy is the informal fallacy of comparing actual things with unrealistic, idealized alternatives. It can also refer to the tendency to assume there is a perfect solution to a particular problem. A closely related concept is the "perfect solution fallacy".

By creating a false dichotomy that presents one option which is obviously advantageous—while at the same time being completely unrealistic—a person using the nirvana fallacy can attack any opposing idea because it is imperfect. Under this fallacy, the choice is not between real world solutions; it is, rather, a choice between one realistic achievable possibility and another unrealistic solution that could in some way be "better".

It is also related to the appeal to purity fallacy where the person rejects all criticism on basis of it being applied to a non ideal case.

    History

In La Bégueule (1772), Voltaire wrote Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien, which is often translated as "The perfect is the enemy of the good" (literally: "The best is the enemy of the good").

The nirvana fallacy was given its name by economist Harold Demsetz in 1969, who said:

The view that now pervades much public policy economics implicitly presents the relevant choice as between an ideal norm and an existing "imperfect" institutional arrangement. This nirvana approach differs considerably from a comparative institution approach in which the relevant choice is between alternative real institutional arrangements.

The question is if Genuary is perfect or a nightmare. I think it's something in between. But what I am sure about: It's fun!
This creation was my first try, I made some others with curves and bigger distances but I went back to the first one. Simple but not perfect.

  33. Over on X social media, I was reading a questioning image post by "Anxiety messages", literally "@anxietymsgs" (social media username address at-handle)...

"if you followed your childhood dream job, what would you be right now?"

    My reply is...

A naïve but qualified and happier web developer and easy-going equal rights man, I believe.
I now have been listening to "How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees... on repeat for much too long... and it just describes too much of my recent living status, sadly. #dreamon #sad #life

There are other wishful answer replies.
I will move on forward to something else now as I have stayed in this #PeaceOfMind #mindful state now for too long and I feel like I'm slowly getting toward death.
It's not new to me though... I have worked my way through being within care support for much of my life and I keep going but the continuous days with my #introvert ed (adult) personality, living in limited personal space, on a path to self- stability without #perfectionism ... I have had enough of this reality and people I know.

The Bee Gees' #music -al piece track lyrics...

How deep is your love? [×2]
    I really mean to learn
'cause we[ are]'re living in a world of fools [I must add, not helping one another enough to fix the systemic broader worldwide issues such as the economies]
Breaking us down when they should all let us be
We belong to you and me

*Addition in the middle of the soundtrack song:*

    I believe in you
You know the door to my very soul [much the same way that life's system spiritually does]
You're the light in my deepest, darkest hour [my "light at the end of the tunnel" dream plan]
    You're my savio[u]r when I fall
And you may not think I care for you [the truth, perhaps!]
When you know down inside that I really do [- care for you]

    *End of addition.*
