  1. CW: Content warning: genocide, war crimes, mass graves, death, graphic memories of violence.

There is something that differentiates me from most people:

The concept of genocide is not foreign to me.

And I do not mean the theory. I mean the practice.

War crimes are not an abstraction. I have seen what they do to bodies, to places, to memory. Sometimes I still see it in my dreams.

I remember my boots in the mud.
I remember the disturbed earth of dug-up mass graves.

    I remember the stench.

I played a small part in an effort to bring a little justice to far too few of the victims. I carry the scars. I carry knowledge I would wish on almost nobody.

And then I watch well-off, well-fed people sitting safely in their comfortable homes, with their nice jobs, families and holidays, casually wishing political violence, murder and even genocide upon people they dislike.

They have no idea what they are asking for.

    I do.

My part may have been small. But I acquired a very particular set of skills.
And I know what those skills are for.

    Not revenge.

    Documentation.

    Memory.

    Accountability.

Because I have seen what happens when people decide that some lives are disposable.

I have seen the earth opened afterwards.

So no, I will not be intimidated by people fantasising about political violence from the safety of their living rooms.

    I will document.
    I will remember.
    I will speak.
I will put names, mechanisms and consequences into the record.

And when history comes asking what happened, I intend to be one of the people who can answer.

Their hatred does not become less dangerous because they have never seen its consequences.

But neither does it become inevitable.

    Their aggression will not stand.

And I will not look away.

  2. The Geometry of Breaking or Healing

    peacegroover@deviantart

    Those are the two options.

To be part of the destruction of that which is precious,
even the life of the enemy.
Or a conduit for the substance that binds up wounds and the broken-hearted.

Even when flaws cause me to hurt those around me or engage in broken thoughts and so, for a time, join with the razing power,
if I am repentant, make the necessary changes, and return to the healing stream,
then the danger of losing my humanity is minimized.

And, if at the end of my life when I am weighed in the balance, and my contribution to fixing outweighs the breaking, then I will be satisfied to rest easy in the knowledge that in some small way I was an addition to the healing sum.

  3. Unseen Japan: Hokkaido University Apologizes for a Century of Ainu Remains Research. “On July 27, 2026, Hokkaido University issued its first-ever proper apology for a prewar research program. The medical school collected and studied more than 1,000 sets of Ainu remains. The university expressed that the work ‘deeply wounded the dignity of the Ainu people.'”

  4. Broken Chair

I rescued the chair from outside someone’s apartment with the hope of fixing it and having it become a welcome member of our family.

But, as often happens, it sat around in various places waiting for me to find the time to repair it.

Finally, I decided it was one more project I did not have time for, and so yesterday I put it out on the sidewalk in the hopes that someone would take it home.

It sat out there all through yesterday in the rain and the sun, lonely, awaiting a new friend. A few people paused to look but then drove away. Periodically I would look out my window to see it still sitting forlornly there.

Then this morning I noticed an older gentleman walking past who began to inspect the chair. He picked it up, put it on his back and walked away.

It is a beautiful chair. It just needs to be repaired, and I am sure its new owner will do just that.

I don’t know about you, but I feel a lot like that broken chair, waiting for the gentle hands of someone to put me back together again.

I wait, broken, with the hope that those hands will touch me, I will be healed, and I can have a purpose again.

  5. If Acts Happened Today, Would We Call It Communism?

For many, "communism" has become less a political philosophy and more a conversation stopper. But is every effort to use our shared resources to care for the poor, the sick, and the vulnerable really communism? This article examines the difference between political labels and biblical principles, comparing the teachings of the early Church with today's political rhetoric.

  6. The Loveliest

    The woman
    with a
    double chin
    and fat fingers
    around plastic bags
    plops down
    in the seat
    across the aisle
    and blocks
    my view of the
    goddess
    whose magazine
    is filled with
    clothes
    she'd fill out
    quite nicely.

    The pretty
    and the ugly
    sit side by side
    and I wonder
    who is
    the loveliest
    in God's eyes.

  7. World Day Against Child Labour 2026

    https://perfettamentechic.com/2025/06/12/giornata-mondiale-contro-il-lavoro-minorile/

Anche nel 2026, oggi, il 12 giugno torna la World Day Against Child Labour, promossa dall’International Labour Organization, con un messaggio forte e immediato: “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults”. In altre parole?
