Today I discovered Delayed Gratification magazine exists - a quarterly publication which revisits the events of the last three months to offer in-depth stories and a slow, more considered journalism.

Never really heard of it before, but I love the concept... but considering I just subscribed to The Guardian Weekly (for the reason of not wanting a daily news cycle), I might give this a miss for now.

Delaying gratification is a highly beneficial skill, and like all skills, it is acquired through practice. Thus it is a good idea to find a way to make that practice pleasurable, to somehow work out how to enjoy delaying gratification so the practice needed to master the skill will be something to look forward to.

#Baby learns #DelayedGratification:

Our almost-9-month-old LOVES to eat with her spoon. (Even foods she she rejects will get a fair hearing from the spoon.)

For weeks, she would cry & scream when we took the spoon away to reload it, then shove it happily into her mouth the moment it was back.

Then: we'd ask, "do you want more?" & she would offer her spoon... yet sob when we took it.

Now she offers it w/o tears -- but observes watchfully to make sure it is returned promptly.
