I'm still reading my fourth #TransRightsReadathon book (Pretty by KB Brookins -- it's intense and can't be gulped down) so I've donated $40 to the Transgender Law Canter and $40 to a local organization that I've found helpful.
I haven't seen a whole lot of posts about the readathon this year, I hope people are talking about it other places.

@eryngium Check the #transrightsreadathon tag! Us by Sara Soler is a good introduction especially for well meaning allies on how to be supportive. Homebody by Theo Parish is similar but a non-binary prespective. Antiboy by Valentijn Hoogenkamp is a nice exploration of gender feeling and dilemmas.

My third #TransRightsReadathon book was The Left Hand of Dog, an excellent recommendation from @Knien . It's just the kind of audiobook I like -- lots of distinct voices, and all British as a plus. 😂 The story is good silly fun, full of geeky references -- Spock's brain, I about died! -- but also has a lot of humanity, as femme-agender-asexual-disabled Lem finds herself feeling home at last with the motliest crew of silly aliens imaginable.
I think it might have felt too twee for my tastes in print, but the audio really sells it. First in a series.

"What makes queer- and trans-antagonism from Black Folks especially hurtful is the cognitive dissonance. It's as if Black queer and trans people are somehow outside the normal that Black Liberation would bring. It's as if there is such a thing as safe Black people. We're all unsafe in the eyes of anti-Black U.S.A. We're all unsafe no matter how cishet or respectable we appear."

I forgot to mention, also paperback! There is a trade paperback edition.
And all except the audiobooks have amazing interior art pieces by Brenda Lyons (Windfalcon) — as a treat, here's a look at how Whisper appears in the novel Pridelord.

My second #TransRightsReadathon book was Women's Hotel by Daniel Lavery. I immediately felt right at home, because though set in 1960s Manhattan, it reminded me so much of the sort of classic British books #FurrowedMiddlebrow reprints -- which I later learned was quite deliberate. https://mainstreetmag.com/a-conversation-with-daniel-m-lavery/
I thought it somewhat lacking in plot and through line -- which can be an issue for me with those books as well. Perhaps Lavery found the perfect way to play to his strengths and weaknesses as a writer, by being somewhat out of time.
My favorite part of the book was the depiction of early AA and one character's journey with alcoholism.

Homebody by Theo Parish was an interesting ya graphic memoir from a non binary author. Very sweet and interesting. #memoir #transrightsreadathon #queer #queerbooks @bookstodon https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/f565ced4-9c66-47db-8146-d58ecdfb2441

Judgement Dave by Si Clarke is a funny space adventure with an amazing voice actor who narrates the audiobook. Looking forward to the next book! #transrightsreadathon #queerbooks #bookreview #scifi #queer @bookstodon https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/0bb1e52e-4743-4cb3-b9ee-3fd495742006

@Knien I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it more; I really loved it. The scene in which the two of them fiercely go off to use the women's room together and are then ecstatic afterwards was so funny and relatable for me.

My first book for the #TransRightsReadathon was Beyond They/Them by em dickson and illustrated by Cameron Mukwa. It's short profiles of people in entertainment, politics and sports who identify as nonbinary, genderqueer, two-spirit or otherwise gender-diverse. Feels a little written down to kids at times, but the author's passion for the work of the subjects shines.

#TransRightsReadathon has come round again! Read and uplift books by trans authors and donate to support https://transrightsreadathon.carrd.co/
While I have had a very slow year of reading since last year, I will be boosting a bunch of my previous reads rather than doing another list here. But I have picked up a new read to start today which I'll write up later.
While my list has been quiet for the last 12 months, trans authors have not. There are loads more books out so do check out your local queer bookstore or library!
If you are in London and looking for a selection of trans books to borrow? Check out book28.org - or in Dublin or Glasgow, look up smalltranslibrary.org - does anyone know of other queer library projects around the world? Please share!

Us by Sara Soler is a graphic memoir mostly meant to inform the audience of the experiences of one trans woman and her wife. It's super educational. #transrightsreadathon #queerbooks #queer @bookstodon https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/dc92d738-1103-4032-86ff-d49614cee5f8

My read books thread for the #transrightsreadathon I'll make proper long reviews once I have time but these are mostly first impressions!

Speaking of the #TransRightsReadathon , can anyone recommend an awesome #audiobook for it? I like nonfiction, romance, fantasy, novels, dislike gore and body horror. I like science fiction but tend to find it hard to follow on audio. Any age range okay if it's a good narration.

"The desire to die and the desire to live, entwined like two snakes around a tree older than the world. This is the tranno secret, that we are not just willing to die, we long for it, passionately, as the pathway to life."
—The Beatrix Gates, by Rachel Pollack

@Knien I've really enjoyed Something that May Shock and Discredit You (memoir); This is How It Always Is (fiction by mother of a trans girl); several books by Jennifer Finley Boylen (mostly memoir), Kacen Callender (YA) and Nino Cipri (science fiction); Sophie LaBelle's comic collections, and Peter Darling by Austin Chant. (Fantasy romance. May be using a different name now.)

Have people made their reading lists for the #TransRightsReadathon ? I'm such a mood reader I'm just collecting ideas, but I'm thinking about Womens Hotel by Daniel Lavery and maybe something by Sarah Gailey.
