When, not if, the United States finally pushes back hard enough to remove the appalling administration it allowed to take power, what steps will it take to ensure nothing like this can ever happen again? As someone watching from outside the U.S., it’s hard not to wonder: Is anyone working on this yet? Working to understand how one individual could so thoroughly trample the spirit of a Constitution that has been treated as sacred, but until now, mostly when it comes to the right to bear arms? Trust takes years to build, and moments to lose. Radical change will be necessary to cleanse the political soil that allowed someone like Trump to take root and thrive, because the world is watching, and it needs to believe that American democracy can still mean something.
