📰 Dam Removals Spark Massive Alewife Comeback

🌎 Maine: After decades of decline, migrating alewife populations have rebounded from under 800 fish to more than 9 million thanks to sustained dam removal and river‑restoration efforts.

🐟 With seals, otters, bald eagles, ospreys, pollock, trout and other carnivores feeding on large populations, communities now celebrate annual alewife festivals, highlighting how ecological restoration can revive cultural traditions and local economies.
