I don't like all the #baggage that comes with some URLs / links. Usually all the stuff after the ? at the end of the main URL. It's irrelevant to you and the people you're posting it to.
I usually either 1) clean it by deleting (a bit of a pain if very long) or 2) sharing to a URL cleaning App (Leon works fine for me) from where it can be shared again. -
Hey all you mastodon users, don't forget that you can "follow" hashtags and any posts tagged with that hashtag will show up in your home feed!
You can also "feature hashtags" on your profile page, which can be used to quickly find all of your posts tagged with that hashtag!
Lastly, using relevant hashtags in your posts makes it more likely that folks with similar interests can find you!

Say a mastodon.social (for example) user searches for a post on a remote server, which causes mastodon.social to fetch that post to be available locally on mastodon.social.
If a *different* mastodon.social user, or even that same user, searches for that same post on a remote server, does mastodon.social just retrieve the locally stored copy, or does it query the remote server every single time someone searches for it?

a) no compartir para leer una nota si es de una web que decide bloquear el acceso a su lectura a quien no se registra en ella (o, en otros casos, a quien no se suscribe y paga).
b) compartirla, pero avisando que se está compartiendo una nota que lxs demás posiblemente no puedan leer.
c) compartirla, pero tomándose el trabajo de hacerla accesible de algún modo (https://archive.is/ es una buena opción, aunque también podría subirse a otro lado, pegarla completa en el toot, o algo que permita materializar el sentido de propagarla).

Voor de nieuwkomers :emergency:
De Fediverse is geen Twitter. We helpen elkaar waar het maar gaat want we zijn allemaal verbonden.
Onderdeel daarvan is het toevoegen van een verklarende tekst (ook wel alt tekst genoemd) aan media die je toevoegd.
Sommige apps vragen daarom bij toevoegen bij andere moet je even op de media klikken voor verzending.
Blinden en slechtzienden maak je hier erg blij mee. Het is wel een gewoonte die inslijten moet. Begrijpelijk als je het vergeet. Daar hebben we wat opgevonden. Volg
en iedere keer dat je het vergeet herinnert die je eraan.
Maar dat is niet alles. Je kunt nog meer doen. Als je media tegenkomt zonder beschrijving kun jij die toevoegen. Beantwoord het bericht met een alttekst en voeg de hashtag #Alt4You toe
En dan tot slotte als je et echt niet meer uitkomt kun je om hulp vragen door in je text de tag #AltTextHelp te plaatsen

Vooraf wil ik zeggen dat ik niet tegen een paywall ben in het algemeen. Het adverteren met een paywall zoals op twitter en andere media die daarmee verdienen uitstekend.
Op Mastodon ligt dat anders en ik wil hier uitleggen waarom.
Mastodon is geen commerciële organisatie. Het bestaat inmiddels uit duizenden servers bedreven en gefinancieerd door admins en gebruikers.
Op het moment dat je paywall artikelen plaatst maak je op al die instanties gratis reclame voor je bedrijf. Het wordt betaald door gebruikers en admins. Je voegt niets toe. Je parisiteert.
Op Mastodon is interactie van belang. Gebruikers de paywall artikelen plaatsen moeten zich bewust worden van het feit dat de gemeenschap hier niets aan heeft. Je confronteert mensen met ongevraagde reclame. Dat is onwenselijk.
Als je iemand daarop wijst krijg je vaak advies een bron te gebruiken die die paywall omzeilt. Aan de ene kant is dat gewoon illegaal. Aan de andere kant post dan zelf die 'andere link'.
Al met al, denk na wat je post. Net als ALT tekst is het ook van belang dat anderen je links kunnen lezen.

Mastodon kent gelukkig geen algoritmes. Niemand behalve jij bepaalt de zichtbaarheid van berichten.
Als je een bericht liked :mstar: dan ziet alleen de originele auteur dat.
Als je een bericht boost :repeat: dan gaat het naar al je volgers en de instanties waar ze actief zijn.
Mijn advies is als je een like gebruikt gebruik dan ook altijd een boost op een origineel bericht. Bewaar de likes zonder boost voor antwoorden.

==================================1. Denk aan het menselijke aspect achter de computer.
Ga niet in gezelschap zitten tooten. Mensen kunnen zich ontzettend irriteren aan iemand die zich buiten een groep plaats en ergens anders is in gedachten. Houd je omgeving in de gaten. Ook voor je eigen veiligheid.
2. Houd online dezelfde gedrags- standaard aan als in het gewone leven.
Op Mastodon proberen we met elkaar om te gaan als normale mensen en niet als Twats. Mastodon is opzettelijk zo gemaakt dat negativiteit wordt tegengewerkt. Zorg voor elkaar wees positief.
3. Weet waar je bent in cyberspace; pas je toonzetting aan bij de omgeving waar je op bezoek bent.
Houd in de gaten waar je posting heen gaat. Is de inhoud geschikt voor iedereen? Als hij je server verlaat is het misschien aangebracht een CW (content warning) te plaatsen om niemand te triggeren? Denk ook aan een alt beschrijving bij plaatjes.
4. Respecteer tijd en bandbreedte van de gebruiker.
Houdt rekening met elkaar en stuur geen overmaat aan plaatjes. Op Mastodon worden files en plaatjes tijdelijk opgeslagen op alle servers waar je bericht getoond wordt. Dat kan een belasting zijn zowel voor opslag als processor tijd.
5. Zorg ervoor dat je je goed presenteert online.
Besteed aandacht aan je profiel. Als het kan zorg voor verificatie. Lees je post nog eens goed na voor je hem verstuurd. Is hij goed leesbaar? Niet alleen tekst telt maar ook vorm is belangrijk.
6. Deel deskundige kennis.
Deskundige bijdrages zijn waardevol. Denk niet dat toch niemand begrijpt wat je bij te dragen hebt. Je zult verbaasd staan van de kennis op Mastodon. Heb je een mening of opinie ga dan nog eens na of die feitelijk te verdedigen is en laat hem anders achterwege.
7. Help mee aan het binnen de perken houden van 'flames' en laat emotionaliteit voor wat het is.
Probeer uit flame draadjes te blijven. Iedere input wakkert het vuur aan blijkt in de praktijk. Als je het niet zien wilt kun je deelnemers tijdelijk muten dat is op Mastodon instelbaar en je hoeft dus niet weer te unmuten. Laat je niet meeslepen.
8. Respecteer de privacy van anderen.
Het hoeft geen verdere uitleg dat doxxen op Mastodon niet op prijs wordt gesteld. Ook andere vormen die de privacy van mensen in het geding brengen kunnen tot een verbazingwekkend snel verlies van je account leiden.
9. Maak geen misbruik van je macht.
Draai je een eigen server of vertegenwoordig je een groep wees je bewust van je positie en maak er geen misbruik van om anderen te benadelen.
10. Vergeef andere mensen hun fouten.
We zijn allemaal mensen en we maken allemaal wel eens fouten. Wees niet te radicaal in je oordeel. Wees vergevingsgezind zo houden we Mastodon leuk.
