Overly tired, overstimulated / overloaded, and struggling this evening, and doing the injection with 2 layers of hand supports (compression gloves and thumb splints), so it's little wonder it took us even longer to do and that our leg didn't want to let us pull the bleeping needle out! No blood when we finally managed it though, and no pain... though that may also be due to other meds we're on 😅

Why 6 mg instead of 5? Because we needed more estradiol for the coming week and fuck our gatekeeping NHS gender clinic 🖕

Didn't even feel the needle go in, or when we pushed down the syringe, or pulled it out. Did a triple check to make sure we'd actually injected. Teeniest dot of blood came out. Couldn't have asked for an easier or better injection 🩹 :TransButterfly: :NonBinaryButterfly: :TransFemHeart:

We did the injection just before midnight, so it still just about counts as being done on the correct day :SmugRelievedFace:

It was actually a pretty decent injection, considering we've been up since 0630 UTC, which was, erm, about, counts on fingers, fails, uses calculator, about 17.5 hours ago.

That may not sound like a long time ago for younger folks, but it's worth remembering that we're a burnt-out, 42-year-old, AuDHD mess, so the fact that we can type this right now is impressive...

... and entirely due to some choice medication choices earlier on 😅

No injection pain, but did seemingly hit a small capillary again, probably because we're so beyond tired, so had a bit of a slow bleed, but nothing a fabric plaster couldn't stop 🩹

Almost falling asleep (like barely staying awake, but worse), but need to keep going, so caffeine and sugar it is!!!

Pretty sure we hit near a nerve on the way in, but that's why we have the auto-stabber: it doesn't care and doesn't stop 😅

Tiny bit of blood on the way out, even after releasing the Z-track hold with the other hand, but definitely not a bleeder like last week.

Had a perfect stab with no pain or even discomfort. However, the moment we pulled the needle out, whooooooooooosh with the blood!

This is a really good reminder that even when you've been literally doing injections for years, you can and will sometimes get a bleeder.

It's why it's recommended to always have something on hand to stop the bleeding, as it'll quickly stop (barring you having issues with clotting or taking certain meds).

And always have your medical plaster (aka bandaid) ready to go 🩹

Hey, finding out about this a little later than I would have liked, but if you have any resources linking to the organization RAINN, I would recommend you remove them and find safer alternatives. I'll provide some alternatives in this post, so we can continue to try and keep each other safe, though please hear me out on this situation until then.

In 2025 they removed any mentions of trans survivors and are no longer providing specialized life saving resources to the minorities who may happen to call. This resource is no longer safe for minorities to access, and I argue that it's not safe for anyone to access if they're silencing survivors, period.

It's claimed that "RAINN’s mission is to stop sexual violence by supporting survivors, holding perpetrators accountable, and creating safer communities." However, by submitting to a notorious perpetrator, Donald John Trump, they're making a mockery of the work they set out to do. This is not only shameful, but dangerous.

Cuts to funding is nothing new and I'm grateful that programs like *The Trevor Project are doing emergency fundraising to fight to keep their doors open instead of submitting to threats by facism. Standing by The People is more important than ever.

• Actually do it on the correct day (rather than run out of spoons and have to do it the next day).
• Have a better chance of working what we'd been doing wrong with a few recent injections with the auto-injector.
  • We reckon our grip had been slipping whilst doing Z-track when we were tired, causing issues when pulling out the needle.

Absolutely zero issues this evening 🥰

Per previous injection post, we're keeping our estradiol dose a little lower until we've had further blood tests and investigations to determine whether the last blood test results were in error, or some other factor has affected our estradiol level.

Our gender clinic has sent a request to our GP surgery to retest, so we're planning to keep our dose lower at 4 mg weekly until we book an appointment, then inject only a very small amount the week before.

Either our estradiol level will then be back within range on the test or it'll suggest that something else is at play.

Our current best bet is our combo of ADHD meds (lisdexamfetamine and guanfacine) messing with hormone levels.

We may be able to use this to justify further testing to rule out stuff at GP though. We'll find out soonish, we guess.

We didn't previously have the spoons to advise why we've temporarily dropped our normal dose down from ~7.5 mg to ~5 mg as of our previous injection on 2026-01-16.

It can be summarised as follows:

• We had had multiple blood tests between 2023 and late 2024 whilst doing injections.
  • We used to do injections on Saturdays, but switched to Friday evenings.
  • All our draws for blood tests have been done Friday mornings.
• From the test results, we determined that our estradiol level was stable and could be reliably estimated thusly:
  • Day before next injection - 166 pmol/L per 1 mg of EEn injected
  • Morning of day of next injection - 125 pmol/L per 1 mg of EEn injected
• We did not have any blood tests relating to GAHT during 2025 for multiple reasons.
• We had a wide-ranging blood test on 2026-01-09, so we injected a lower amount the week before (2026-01-02).
  • The result should have been between 500 and 600 pmol/L, based on the amount injected.
  • The actual result was more than double this (1349 pmol/L).
  • Our testosterone level was also out of whack (2.9 nmol/L!!!), despite our progesterone level being high (45.2 nmol/L).
• We're uncertain whether:
  • Other medications we're taking have affected our E2 and T levels.
  • The tests results are inaccurate.
  • Something else has affected the results.
• Until we can arrange another blood test to be sure, we're lowering our weekly dose to a mid amount.
  • Whilst we're aiming to keep E2 largely within a 750 to 1500 ish pmol/L range in the long term, we're not worried by peaks of up to about 2500 pmol/L in the short to medium term, which is why we're not lowering it more for now.
  • We also don't want to lower it too much, in case the test results were inaccurate.

Due to present poor mood, we've decided it would be unwise for us to do our weekly estradiol enanthate injection tonight, even with our auto-stabber.

We're planning to describe it as an auto-stabber" from now on, as it was highlighted to us that it's not an auto-injector unless it also does the injection of liquid, which ours does not.

Anyways, our injection will be postponed until tomorrow.

Well, we've got an NHS blood test booked next Friday morning, which will include hormone level tests for our gender clinic, so sadly we need our estradiol level to be between 400 and 600 pmol/L so that they don't complain at us :Sighing_Face:

Our estradiol trough goes up by roughly 125 pmol/L for each 1 mg we inject, so this should put our estradiol level somewhere between about 500 and 600 pmol/L.

If enough folks asks for it, we'll do a poll to guestimate what our estradiol test result will be after the test 🩷

Did it about maybe an hour ago, but forgot to do the post immediately afterwarss. It was still 2-3 hours late, but that's kind of become the default 😅 All that matters really is that it was a perfect injection: easy, painless, and no bleeding 🥰

Every injection also feels like a big middle finger up to the NHS and NICE for refusing to prescribe estradiol injections within the UK 🖕🤘

Delayed again by a few hours today. Didn't think we'd have the spoons to do it at all tonight, but had a slight rally. Weird injection though. Not painful, just uncomfortable when pulling out the needle. No blood spurt or anything. Might have been we loosened our grip on the z-track or something, or because we did more walking today by far than we have typically done for 6-12 months. Anyway, all went in fine and no pain afterwards.
