–sn–

Discord plans to make more public community conversations discoverable via web search, so people could find answers without joining a server.

TechCrunch: Discord is making its public communities more searchable, and people have concerns. “Starting November 16, every Discoverable Server will have its own web page, which may feature automated summaries of discussions in active public channels. Beginning in mid-December, selected messages from public channels may also appear in search engine results.”

Discord will make conversations in more than 63,000 Discoverable Servers searchable on the open web from 16 November, with automated summaries and selected messages reaching search engine results from mid-December. Usernames and avatars stay hidden, but users fear loss of context and possible AI training. https://techcrunch.com/2026/10/27/discord-is-making-its-public-communities-more-searchable-and-people-have-concerns/ #Media #SocialMedia #Discord

Discord has announced plans to make public conversations from over 63,000 Discoverable Servers searchable on the web starting in mid-December.

Individual web pages will feature channel summaries, while private servers, direct messages, and teen accounts are excluded.

Server admins can choose included channels and members can opt out.

The update has sparked privacy backlash and questions regarding potential AI training use.

Mine skipped my 2FA, spammed my friends a crypto scam, then muted them all so nobody could warn me.

If you were posting in Discoverable public servers expecting them to be fully private then I have a bridge to sell you.

That's on you, not Discord.

Discord messages are now going to be discoverable over the search engines - and worse, while there is an opt-out, it is two-layered: per server and per user.

for now it's onyl for Discoverable Servers (i.e 1,000+ members) but they're definitely preparing the ground for expanding this feature - and to do that, they're going to test on this.

so the fact communities still use it, in the year of 2026, is genuinely sad.
