  1. literally me in a nutshell now :angry_laugh:

  2. if there are still any illusions that russians are not waging war against Europe, or naively think they won't stand a chance because they're barely advancing on frontline in Ukraine, you live in a bubble: they are already waging war against EU & NATO.

and Europeans aren't prepared for new type of warfare

  3. seems like the tide is turning on Digital IDs πŸ₯³

"A report from Parliament's Home Affairs Committee this week concluded the government's handling of mandatory digital ID plans was "rushed, poorly thought out and failed to make a convincing case." [...] Andy Burnham previously warned that tying digital ID to employment checks risked creating a "backdoor national ID system"

  4. ah that time of the year again when I'm writing a Bluetooth-related doc so I'm going through 6k pages and thousands of lines of Bluetooth code implemented in existing solutions :blobmegasweats:

and once again I'm getting convinced Bluetooth protocol had - and still has IMO - good intentions, but tries to achieve too much

  5. CW: ukpol

it's funny how people who criticise Burnham, including those in ukpol fediverse, call him out for either some strawman arguments, or just make up some bullshit

meanwhile one of my favourite media published an actual critical analysis on Burnhamism, with its strengths & flaws. I may not agree with it in some details, especially its conclusion, yet it's more coherent & intellectual than random mumblings of GPEW/Reform fans manchestermill.co.uk/stop-look

"Earlier, Green Party leader Zack Polanski said: "Chris will be a fantastic candidate and representative for Makerfield."

fantastic candidate in question: withdraws less than 24 hours after nomination because of...

  7. disclaimer 2: this article's target audience isn't primarily those who use Fediverse, or tech-savvy people, but instead I'm attempting to bring out more attention towards digital sovereingty to the opposite group of people - those who use dogmatic views on tech policy, or have idealistic views about Chinese tech.

someone has to speak with non-tech people about tech policy, and I'm willing to be that person & do what I can to the best of my ability.

  8. my new article is up, once again for Mainstream Labour group within Labour party. in it, I focus on importance of digital sovereignty for UK tech policy and why shifting to China as replacement for US isn't a solution
    mainstreamlabour.org/blog/the-

(disclaimer: while I engage with Mainstream Labour and consider their policy views as closest to mine, I am NOT a member of either Labour party of Mainstream Labour officially)

  9. you can't be infuriated enough with the companies who desperately attempt to keep the AI bubble floating (and when it'll eventually burst, it's people like Huang will come out unharmed)

  10. CW: antisemitism, far-right

this is genuinely revealing: two marches yesterday in London - far-right nationalist one ("Unite the Kingdom"), and the countermarch by "progressives" - and literally the exact same message on each of them.

yet people doubt in horseshoe theory πŸ™ƒ

(I'm sure some anti-Zionists will jump into replies to argue vehemently that "their anti-Zionism is a righteous one", and my response to this is you're simply bullshitting)

  11. even framework laptop's talk of freedom and interoperability of hardware modules is actually bullshit? man, I gotta admire lengths that this company goes to discredit itself so much πŸ’€

    circumstances.run/@davidgerard

  12. technically there is an existing fork of Firefox – Librewolf – and it does a tremendous job with its resources and available team.

πŸ’― about giving them funding though. if there is a FOSS projects that deserve it, it's them.

  13. CW: ukpol, green party

I also find it so funny that supporters are fuming at Andy's decision to stand in, and want to properly contest - when even its own former MP and party leader pleaded not to do it.

the reason is simple though. unlike constantly lying leftwing version of Farage, so far Andy is the only politician in UK who is popular and positively viewed. and if Burnham is to become PM & implement his proposed programme, he'll suck the air out of both populists.

  14. after the first delivery was lost by Royal Mail, I finally got them :blobfoxpirate: the Icelandic Pirates rebrand looks much more stylish & modern πŸ’œ

btw if anyone would love one of them, I'll be happy to give them for free in-person – as long as you live in Greater Manchester

  15. I just watched Tavaszi szΓ©l: Az Γ©bredΓ©s - documentary about Peter Magyar's political ascension - and can't recommend it enough

the story of a person who isn't perfect, was once part of a system he believed in, went against it, withstood everything he was thrown at, and created a platform for unity & patriotism, against populism. he cannot waste the chance he got.

  16. Greater Manchester NHS vs Palantir feud is so fun to watch because, quite frankly, GM's solution is genuinely what should be done instead in all aspects (single run system & patients record based on digital sovereignty). proud of my mayor - hopefully soon-to-be PM - and Manchester :D theregister.com/public-sector/

perhaps, if cards lays properly on a table, this will be adapted across the country - instead of Palantir's garbage.

  17. it genuinely reminds me of a pre-2022 time period when russian oligarchs & spies were allowed to operate & spy of whom they need without much of a resistance and only until they screwed up (while chunk of population downplayed those threats)
    bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0m2wj

now it's the same with CCP agents, on top of that UK gov't, for the sake of "economic growth", lets CCP build mega-embassy.

    utterly complacent.

  18. great breakdown of Sony's compliance with Online Safety Act's ID verification requirement (because it should be called for what it is) and awful choice of provider youtu.be/BU7NIVWJigM

one thing missed: as far as I understand, Sony's "age verification" by phone number is deceptive bc it clearly states that it'll use "owner of the phone contract" details. which means PAYG SIM card owners are locked out.

  19. CW: rant, antisemitism

I'll just say this, as directly as I can:

I'm sick and tired of people who claim Jewish people have "perception of unsafety", or deny Islamist extremism in United Kingdom (with some even fueling it) and attempt to frame criticism of it as "Islamophobia".

and I don't know how much more terrorist attacks paid by Islamist extremists need to happen so that people understand that.
