  3. Well that sucked! My Verizon-supplied router had a failure of its internet port. The other ports work fine and the wireless still works so I disabled DHCP on it and hooked it up directly to my home lab's switch. I needed everything to work so that when my wife got home, she could watch TV. Basically it went from a router to an access point. POS!

Now my OPNsense box is doing all the routing. Damn but I love OPNsense. It rescued me out of a problem.

  5. Interesting article. It doesn't surprise me but has me contemplating jumping ship again. I wonder if the other 2 major carriers i.e. T-Mobile and AT&T are taking as big a gamble of customer service via AI as #Verizon is. Verizon is getting ready to tune customers out - PhoneArena phonearena.com/news/verizon-co

  7. #Verizon and #Comcast are big profitable companies, but they are not earthshaking giants. If #Anthropic and #OpenAI end up being the Verizons and Comcasts of the next decade, their #shareholders will be looking at huge #losses

  8. This is a strange development I didn’t realize that #verizon provided phone coverage in our part@of #sanfrancisco. Curious if #cpuc find differently.

  10. He had a master criminal plan of burglarizing a Verizon outlet. The plan hit a snag when his getaway vehicle was stolen by another criminal.

  12. Oh no, #Verizon is threatening to turn our $20 wrist baubles into glorified paperweights by pulling the plug on their underwhelming #app nonsense! 🎉 Apparently, they think it’s hilarious to replace a mediocre app with another that doesn’t even work for half their users. 🙃🎈 Bravo, Verizon, bravo!

  14. Weekly output: Verizon revamps plans, edge and on-device AI in connected homes

I keep saying that the only thing I really want for Father’s Day is a nap. This one has somehow not featured that, but I still can’t complain about how today has gone for me.

6/16/2026: Verizon Wireless Drops 2 Fees, Adds Rewards Programs and ‘Simplicity’ Plan, PCMag

I spent more time quizzing a Verizon publicist about this bundle of announcements than I’d expected because the advance copy of the company’s press release left out so many details–and then I still had to revise the post Tuesday morning with additional information about its new Verizon One bundle of home and mobile broadband.

6/18/2026: AI at the Edge: Smarter Decisions, Less Latency, Unify 2026

The Connectivity Standards Alliance, the trade group behind the Matter standard for connected-home devices, hosted a conference in Austin and saw fit to include me in the proceedings (and to pay me a stipend for my work as a panel moderator). My spot on the program was this panel featuring Felipe Benavides, head of partnerships at Liquid AI; Alan Coleman, chief product officer of Plume; Colin Cureton, product line vice president for  home business at Silicon Labs; and Rolf de Vegt, vice president of technical standards at Qualcomm. We spent 45 minutes unpacking what on-device AI models can do for gadgets ranging from light bulbs to dishwashers to thermostats–in particular, about the privacy upsides of sending less data to cloud services.

  16. Honestly, I don’t know why everyone complains about #Netflix prices. I have the cheapest plan (1080p w/ ads - $8.99 normally, I have it through #Verizon along with #HBOMax for $13/mo) and I’ve just finished watching #Apex with ZERO ads. And I’m constantly surprised by the video quality/clarity even with FHD resolution, to the point I don’t even feel the experience would be different enough from 4K to justify anything else.

Even if there are ads they’re usually 15s or less.

  18. tl;dr Thirsty salesperson: Was in the process of setting up new services with #Verizon Business when my brother, who passed away, was in the crossing over stage and I had to cancel my virtual appointment. This thirsty salesperson just couldn't wait. He had the sale. FFS, I reached out to them first which led to me getting this little fecking thirsty salesperson.

    Anyway, the covo:

Message from you, Reread the texts. I told you I would contact you when I was ready. You had the sale, it's just something came up in the middle of the initial get-together that was more important than this. I'm disinterested now. I won't be getting services. Please don't message me again and thanks for texting while I was with the funeral director planning the arrangements for my older brother., Monday, June 15 2026, 11:13 PM.

  20. #Verizon sent man a #refurbished phone with #MDM , then deleted his data remotely

Verizon sent one of its customers a "refurbished" phone equipped with a Mobile Device Management (MDM) profile that gave the company remote control over the device. The serious mistake raises questions about Verizon's process for preparing refurbished phones to be sent to customers.

  22. AT&T & #Verizon lose #SupremeCourt case over fines for selling #location data

AT&T & Verizon lost an attempt to overturn fines for selling users’ real-time location data without consent, as the Supreme Court ruled today that the FCC process for issuing financial penalties did not violate the right to a jury trial.

AT&T convinced the US Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to overturn its fine last year, while Verizon lost in the 2nd Circuit. The Supreme Court took up the case to resolve the circuit split and reversed the 5th Circuit decision in today's ruling, which was 8-1 with Justice #ClarenceThomas dissenting.

#ATT & Verizon were fined a total of $104 million by the #FCC in 2024 for violations revealed in 2018. The carriers paid their fines and challenged them in circuit appeals courts, where judges’ panels ruled on the cases. Carriers claimed this system deprived them of the Seventh Amendment right to a jury trial.
