Autistic people will do very well with cluade.ai. I have it criticise me at the end of every session. NeuroTypical peiople would not do that. It is purely rational, I do not have to worry about its emotions. Neurotypical people will waste mental resourcs being polite. I can happily look at a terminal all day and not talk to anyone.

I think, after 20 years since my diagnosis as an #Aspie, I'm finally able to "pass" as a #neurotypical successfully if I choose.

I just had an epiphany that, to me at least, might be the "key" to unlocking this secret - small talk's banality IS important! #Gossip MATTERS! It's mandatory! We're about to get all #philosophy up in here!

See, you know how we all have two faces - the one that we show to the world, and the one that we keep to ourselves or our closest companions? The Outer Self and the Inner Self?

That's what's called the "#Human Condition", also known as the "Hedgehog's Dilemma" (reference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedgehog%27s_dilemma ).

So summarize all of that for you, the long and short of it is this:

We are individuals that want to "join" with others (think "relationships" of all sorts).

That creates two concepts - The #Self, and The #Other

We want and desire for The Self and The Other to be one, to be merged, joined, ultimately. But, there's a couple of problems with that.

There's the fear of LOSING The Self when joining with The Other.

And, there's the fear of rejection from The Other. From being cast aside, forgotten, ignored.

So The Self, in defense of itself, creates The Wall. The Wall divides us, keeps us separated, but safe.

It's a translucent wall - and we control the opacity. Through it, we choose how much of The Self to show to The Other, how much we risk rejection, or fear of being absorbed and losing our individuality.

And that's where "small talk" comes into play. By using "small talk", #neurotypical people clear the opacity of their wall; risking vulnerability (just a little!) to The Other. Showing just a LITTLE bit more of The Self.

Every "small talk" conversation should be thought of in these terms:

The Self: "Oh Hi, Other! I'm a person! A real human with needs, desires, feelings, emotions. Are you?"

The Other: "Hey there Self, yeah I too am a real human with needs, desires, feelings, emotions! We should totally chill more often!"

The Self: "A'ight, lets hang, my man!"

The Other: "True Dawg, True. For sho!"

I have no idea why that turned into a #racist remake of the movie Friday at the end, but the point is this.

Every bit of small talk, every communication between you and another person about the minuscule happenings in your life, in their life... it's tiny peeks through The Wall. It allows for a collection of "mini-risks", that allow neurotypicals to "gel" and learn to start to trust each other, to build stronger bonds.

To really start to merge... just a little closer to each other.

Now that I know that... I don't think I'll see any public gatherings, informal meetings, get-togethers the same way again.

Or, to sum it all up in a horribly culturally-appropriating way:

"Chillin' wit yer homies makes you a pack, yo!

Family."

And here’s my biggest #frustration of the past few days. Like I only have #256GB of storage in my phone, why is 175 of it filling up the majority of the space? You were the #neurodivergent choice, #Apple, the alternative. Why are you being #neurotypical in not telling me exactly what this data is for? That way, I can at least get rid of the one #app that’s causing all this bloat. Or at least give an option to clear this manually, as it’s not really necessary when my #backup is only 12Gb. #SMH.

I've just realised that I have misplaced feelings of failure.
For years I have thought I'm a failure because I couldn't have a notebook by my bed and write down ideas/thoughts so I didn't need to remember them and by writing them down I could relax and sleep.
Now I realise this is #NeuroTypical people not understanding #ADHD no wonder it felt impossible and overwhelming. I'd be writing non-stop, multiple notebooks each night and no relaxation.

Since April is #AutismAwarenessMonth, I felt like I should amplify the fact that people with #Autism and #Autistic spectrum disorders almost unanimously feel that #AutismSpeaks is counterproductive in that it actively avoids allowing autistic representation, and focuses on suppressing autistic traits in general rather than trying to bolster coping skills and give autistic people wider acceptance in society.

It's the equivalent of an organization about people in wheelchairs, run entirely by people who are inconvenienced by them, pulling attention away from advocacy for ramps in order to find ways to make the wheelchairs less obtrusive, at the expense of the people in wheelchairs.

They are #neurotypical people, shouting over #disabled people.

Matt Lowry, LPP, of Child & Adolescent Psychological Evaluations, LLC, in St. Matthews, Kentucky, created diagnostic criteria for #neurotypical folks, if neurotypical folks were diagnosed with a #developmental #disorder instead of #neurodivergent folks.

It's pretty genius, and it showcases precisely why pathologizing any #neurotype can do more harm than good by stigmatizing anything that deviates from what most people consider "normal."

Season 04 Episode 11 of Fringe featured the meeting of the two Agent Astrid Farnsworth, one an autistic and the other neurotypical.

This episode aired on 2012-02-04 and entitled “Making Angels”.

The autistic Agent Astrid Farnsworth came from the “Amber World” (the parallel world), and the NT Astrid is from the “Prime World” (our world basically).

The character is, I would say “basic” as far as portrayal of an autistic person. Some would say it's a stereotype. But I like her nonetheless because it was not exaggerated, and the focus was not on her autism instead it was about her many skills.

And in this episode, we saw through her that autistic people are humans too. That we have our own struggles, we do cry and feel emotions (contrary to the claims that we lack it), and we just want to live like everyone else.

The autistic Astrid was introduced in season 2 (2009–2010). The actress, Jasika Nicole, was praised for her performance of both the neurotypical and the autistic Agent Astrid.

It's probably convenient (opportunistic?) to describe this in terms of training for logic, which we could loosely define as 'consistent understanding' (people agreeing on #meaning).

Sometimes the new #chatbots say things that we see as logical (therefore intelligent), other times they are 180 deg wrong. Why?

#BodyLanguage is a bit more murky than words, but they still share most of the same problems of #communication. Polysemic meanings (homonyms) have both local & regional sources (limiting this to 1 language) of definitions, and this is compounded as we go from general to specific.

For example, the word dog is likely to be the same in any region of the same language, and communicating this basic idea should be fairly straightforward. However, if we wish to include many details about the dog, including behavior or personality, the number of words required to communicate this accurately rises exponentially.

The way we manage such large chunks of #information is through relying on experiencing consistency between intended and perceived meanings. This is how we learn; this is how all things "learn". It requires iteration, flexibility, patience, and #ErrorCorrecting feedback loops.

This is where we see critical differences regarding body language. There is no dictionary of body language meanings, and we rarely have opportunity for broad-based input on the iteration side, nor on the error correcting side. (Yes, I know that there are academic studies of body language "definitions" used by several professions, but these are mainly for controlled environments, well beyond formative years.)

All this boils down to all of us having different #InitialConditions from which we base our instinctive understanding of meaning. Over time, a mistaken word definition would be uncovered with use, as there are many opportunities to be corrected. Body language not only does not have a dictionary, it does not have grammar rules or other mechanisms for consensus to be reached. Body language is not all subconscious either, much of it is learned and intentionally enacted in order to communicate better.

There's also the key difference that when we write or speak, we do so with singular focus (end result, not creation). If we get distracted mid-sentence, most people lose their place in their train of thought.

With body language the 'extra content' can be totally unrelated to what the person is saying-- again, sometimes intentional, other times subconscious. When this kind of disconnect is going on, we have to resort to trying to pull information from other places, and that is not always available.

So IMO, saying you're not good at body language is like saying you're not good at flipping coins because it took many flips before you arrived at 50%, and the person next to you did it in 2 flips. Our experience of #statistical variation is beyond our control.

The world is full of #FalsePositives, where people are walking around viewing the world in binary terms because life flipped 1 head and then 1 tail for them, and they think that's the only way to get to 50% (that's a good alternative description of #neurotypical!).

TL/DR: If you think you're not good at interpreting BL, it's probably because you were dealt a lot of #variation early on. If you put in some time to observe & reflect on it, you will end up with a higher than average ability after just a few corrections!

Maybe that's why I'm so eager to leave it behind. #Twitter hasn't been fun for me since...2015, maybe? Not saying it's the same for everyone.

I really do think that Twitter was designed to appeal to #neurotypical people. Not only have I met more #neurodivergent people here, the subject matter of the conversations has been much more appealing to me.
