  1. Good article, though I will go one step further and say that a #neurotypical therapist will _never_ be appropriate for a #neurodivergent client. There will always be too many barriers in place, both #masking related and understanding-related. They just don't get it. Training and learning is simply no substitute for lived experience when you're talking about neurological differences, especially #autism.

This is my firm and unwavering view and is based on personal experience of 3 psychiatrists, 2 counsellors and 2 psychologists. Now I live my life without any form of therapy. I'm an intelligent person and I'm making way more progress by figuring things out myself.

  6. Please help me out with a theory.

Do you consider yourself to be neurodivergent or neurotypical*?

Do you rely more on your cognitive skills or intuition?

*If you don't know what neurodivergent or neurotypical mean, let's assume you're neurotypical. Because that's what 'typical' means - that that's the assumption.

  11. Damn. I need a #haircut. So it’s three hours of research on what this #FIFAWorldCup thing is and who is playing, so that I can engage with the small talk at the barbers and pass for #neurotypical. Why can’t they just spot trains like normal people…

  14. "I was talking to my close #family, and we're as neurodiverse as hell. And I was talking to, I think it was probably my grandson, and also my daughter. We were talking about how apparently neurotypical people favor vertical/ hierarchical social arrangements. They feel more comfortable if there are people above them and people below them, and they know where they are.
#Neurodiverse people tend to favor more #horizontal social arrangements.
So I was thinking about this, and I came up with what I think is a brilliant solution: that we should #medicate the #neurotypical. [Douglas: "Exactly!!"] Because it's them causing all the problems, you know."

  19. @Bubotomy This.

It's the single most frustrating thing for me, too.

  20. adrianlambert.substack.com/p/w it helps to know that you are not crazy to think the world is burning down right now, and no one is acting appropriately. I imagine a lot of the neurodivergent here would agree, and every day more neurotypical people will find themselves in the same camp as us. #neurodivergent #neurotypical #society #ItsTheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt #Science #thisisfine #adhd #neuroscience

  25. @lifewithtrees Oh.

#neurobland is the opposite of #neurospicy.

So like #neurodivergent vs. #neurotypical, but without the connotation that the later would be more common (or even "healthier").

If you have not hear about it before it's because I came upp with it ca 10 minutes ago.

  30. #psychology 🧌 time, maybe #neurodivergent thinking is alternative modes of seeking. Maybe #autism is diffuse thinking by default, a breadth-first exploration of a problem space, and the #neurotypical is just goal-oriented and goes depth first. (Graph theory/traversal algorithm talk is leaking so sorry about that)

Maybe #OCD is just attempts at producing a controlled environment, maybe #mood #disorders are rapid context switching to influence decision making in the probability distribution.
