Fat Positive Clothes Swap

Bring clothes you don't want and swap them for clothes you do, in an affirming space. No diet talk allowed!

This swap is for people of any gender, who wear a size 16/L+ in clothing.

We don't operate a token system because some folks bring more than they'd like to take away, and others bring nothing/very little and take away more.

£3-5 donation on the day (cash/card reader available) to cover the costs of putting on the event.

Covid-19 Harm Reduction

We ask ALL attendees to wear a mask at the swap. Spare masks will be available on the door!

We also encourage everyone to consider e.g. testing before attending, and obviously not attending if you have any symptoms.

Crowdsource: Hydration Motivation: Spite Edition

Ok gang, I was searching for stickers or magnets or something as little reminders to drink more water, and honestly the most successful motivator for me is spite or at least something that actually feels like A Real, Specific Goal than just "be hydrated because it's good for you" (although that should be enough).

So far the one I like best says, "Drink more water. Outlive your enemies." And that's not bad…

I don't run(!) but if I did I would buy the tank top that says, "I run so I can keep up with The Doctor" (this one says "work out" (well, it says "workout" but it should say work out as the verb not the noun…) but you get the idea).

So… if we could collectively brainstorm (like when Martha got the world to think DOCTOR all at once to un-creepy-old-age him)… anybody got any "slogans" that are maybe not quite reverse psychology but like, contrarian and perverse (see 2b or 3) or just petty and spiteful and revenge-ful…

Or something that's like, I'm doing this really bland thing to give myself a Fun, Cool Superpower. Or to 'imitate' a really badass person.

I'd be ever so grateful for your ideas!!!

(Not really looking for "tips HOW to drink more water" - just little mottos I can stick in various places to remind myself why it's "important" (to me!))

What's the relation between weight and health?
Trick question: there isn't one.

"[H]ealth issues that get blamed on being higher-weight may actually be due to weight stigma and/or weight cycling and/or healthcare inequalities" or other "health issues might be impacting weight."

Ragen Chastain's Weight and Healthcare Substack is excellent. The posts are always informative, clear, thoughtful, short, valuable. If you are under the mistaken impression that weight correlates with health, you can begin to unlearn that prevalent misconception. If you already know that there's no relation between health and weight, you can still learn a lot about the details of GLP-1 antagonists and how they are prescribed, the bias that fat people encounter in health care settings, the actual research on weight and health. I really appreciate how consistently Chastain pursues these questions. Worth a follow, if you do the substack thing.
