To be specific: the conservative said the reason #onpoli steel and car parts were getting tarriffed while #abpoli oil and gas were not was Premiere Smith's better negotiating.

In Ontario, unfortunately, much of a candidate's honest answer about strengthening local democracy would have to be "take it up with your MPP."
Canadian municipalities have no rights or responsibilities that the province can't take away at whim, as Premier Ford did with our safe-injection sites, bike lanes, and school boards. 🙁

Peterborough hospital gets a 1.8% funding increase. Its costs are going up over 6% a year. The Ford government is hacking away at vital acute hospital services despite its promises to end hallway healthcare and clear the surgical wait lists.

They've also repealed restrictions that previously governed Personal Information Banks. Government and municipal institutions no longer have to disclose the existence of personal information banks, and no longer have to make the information contained inside retrievable.

While everyone's been focused on #DougFord exempting his cell phone and other government records from #FOI requests, he also removed oversight by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of his government's data integration practices. Data Integration allows the government to share personal and health information across departments. Previously the Commissioner had approve and oversee data integration. Now, she can't.
