Imagine playing your very first indoor bowls game, but there is no jack. Everyone simply rolls a bowl towards an imaginary target. Somehow, your experienced opponent seems remarkably confident, while you try to copy what they do and hope for the best. At the end of the first end, someone reveals where the jack had been all along and awards the points accordingly. Then the second end goes in the same fashion, with a target that no one can see. Every end, you know how well you've done, but you never have any hope of getting better. Learning to bowl that way would feel practically impossible because every bowl would be complete guesswork. Surprisingly, some board games seem to want us to learn them in very much the same way.

Played a three handed version of Barcelona to learn the rules. I'll be bringing this to our gaming club this weekend. Surprisingly light, but with a great decision space. Really looking forward to this.

Horizons of Spirit Island
I have played twice: solo + 2 player.
I definitely prefer Fellowship of the Ring. This is about as complicated but the gameplay isn't as thematic.
It was more relaxing to play this solo. I might play it again this way. I'm not convinced it'll be better multiplayer - but we'll see.

Dune Imperium (2020) &
Konzil der Vier (2015)
Frau hat wirklich einen Lauf. 6. Spiel in Folge, dass sie gewinnt. Bei Dune war es für mich das 5. der letzte Platz in Folge... ich brauche Urlaub! 😎
Abgesehen davon, fing Dune punktesetig eher zäh an, bevor es interessant und spannend wurde.
KdV war nach dem 2. Drittel eine klare Sache, die ich nur noch auf-, aber nicht mehr überholen konnte. Erster Sieg für Frau in diesem Spiel und das auch verdient. -

I played a number of board games while at the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo. I met some new friends in the process. Much fun was had.

The teen’s been away all day at a friend’s birthday hang out, so @timcoffman & I played some #BoardGames. First up, two games of the new 2-player Bunny Kingdom Town. The original Bunny Kingdom is one of our Top 10 most played games, so no surprise that we enjoyed this. Simplifies play, still super fun. Then we played two games of the new Wingspan Pocket. Again, simplifies play, still SUPER fun. Really happy to have some new lite versions of games we love.

Board gaming trifecta achieved. Three days in a row (when not at a convention) of going somewhere and playing board games with friendly strangers. Today we played from the selection I brought. Played my second Biblios game in years as well as my old favorite Splendor.

Went to a board game event at a local book store yesterday evening. Played a pretty fast Tooth Fairy card game and the more strategic Biblios.
Went to a board game event at the local library this afternoon. Played Forest Shuffle: Smoky Mountains (more complicated than the original) and then Finspan (mercifully less complicated than the original).
Might stick around after Sunday services tomorrow for yet another board game event... we'll see.
