"The temple’s dimensions are based on the number 12 and a module of 7.5m. It is 90m long (7.5 × 12) and 60m wide (7.5 × 8). The width of the main nave is 45m (7.5 × 6)."

Ich habe ca. 1992 #Barcelona und die Baustelle der Sagrada Familia besucht und als ich zuhause erzählt habe, dass ich die Baustelle (!) einer #Kirche besucht habe, hat man mich für total verrückt erklärt. NIEMAND, wirklich niemand kannte die #SagradaFamilia.

Heute: Der 100. Todestag Antoni Gaudís. Der Katalonier wurde am 7. Juni 1926 von einer Straßenbahn erfasst. Man hielt ihn erst für einen obdachlosen Bettler, daher wurde er erst Stunden später ins Krankenhaus gebracht. Drei Tage nach dem Unfall starb der Architekt.

The catenary arch – the shape a hanging chain makes – allowed his columns to support the #church’s 18 towers without extra supports. A century later, engineers solved the problem of the heaviest towers using pre-stressed #stone panels, and today #drones and #AI scan the basilica for cracks in a month instead of two years.
