Game Pile: A Magician’s Familiar

A Magician’s Familiar is a trick-taking, narrative-heavy tabletop role-playing game about playing magicians in a wonderful world full of fascinating monsters with a a type system for combat and monsters that grow and change over time. It is a perfect toolkit for representing a game like the classic Pokemon or Digimon anime, where the character and their relationship to their critter, and the direction they can offer during combat, is how they overcome the challenges of the day.

Hello! I am Originalbarbas and I have recently joined this server. I am a physicist, currently researching #quantum technologies in #Vigo. I build things with lasers on them, basically. Sometimes I also build the lasers too. I have lived in many places, recently in #Scotland and #Catalunya.

I like #videgames (currently playing through Expedition 33), #tabletopgames, #ttrpgs, #manga, #anime, #books (I read everything that I get my hands into, but I specially like #scifi, #fantasy and #murdermysteries), #comics (european mostly, but also american and basically every genre I can find), #bouldering and recently #aikido and #iaido.

@auguryignored In my previous response, I was thinking mainly of traditional #ttrpgs with character sheets and dice, but there are many other types of #ttrpg where the past is very mutable. I'm specifically thinking of prompt-based games where the characters come to light over time, and players are expected to adjust previous decisions to fit new information. Stuff like #ForTheQueen and its descendants.

How do people here feel about Failing Forward in #ttrpgs ?

Explicitly the act of failing a roll or action, but still progressing onwards with the story.
Success, but with consequences.
