And the Owlbear is done. Went to my regular game night for the first time since May. Everyone was happy to see me, which always confuses me a little.
I didn't actually play, just hung out with them for a while. They're still playing Mutants and Masterminds 2e, which I don't care for. But I'll probably hop in next session anyway, because the Owlbear loves their friends, and it's the stories, action, and comradery I'm there for, and I get those no matter what I think of the system.
Anyway, take care of each other. Be kind, spread love, play #ttrpgs with your friends. But not Mutants and Masterminds 2e. You can do better.

Seeing this, my RPG-idea-scavenging brain immediately started churning through possible scenarios where the player characters get entangled with a cargo of illegal measuring sticks or run afoul the criminal networks that obtain and distribute them.

Privilege: This word calls to mind the #Oxventure #BladesInTheDark campaign. I listened to in preparation for running a #Genesys game set in Doskvol. One of their PCs is Barnaby Fortescue III, a charismatic fellow (playbook: Slide) from a wealthy family whose upbringing makes him completely out of touch with the struggles of the rest of his crew. Differences in the socio-economic background of PCs can make for interesting roleplaying conflicts.

Gary Coleman as Arnold Jackson walks into a comic book shop on the TV series “Diff’rent Strokes.” And look what just happens to be by the door: A display of Advanced D&D core rule books!
From the episode “The Big Heist,” which aired Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, 1981, this is one of the earliest — if not the first — appearances of D&D in film and TV in America, predating its appearance in “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” (June 1982) by 7 months.

Fun Fact: In the 1970s and 80s, TSR published the maps for their D&D adventures in blue to prevent piracy. This specific color of blue wouldn’t copy on analog optical photocopy machines. Today, D&D maps in “non-photo blue” are easily reproduced with scanners or digital copiers. i must say, the Friends and Rivals system in Blades in the Dark and inspired systems is so useful for a GM, especially if you then let the players tweak each NPC to make them more personal. it's a great way to create recurring characters other than the various factions.

Wrapped my first true-blue Blades campaign last night, after about 8 or 9 sessions. Enough time to get to get to Tier 1 and gain some serious territory, but I want to play more 🥺

Been loving playing Blades in the Dark as run by someone who *loves* running Blades in the Dark. Extremely different from all my previous experiences, in which the system never sang because we didn't commit to it — Blades is the sort of game where taking a cog out makes the whole machine collapse

My number one hobby is #ttrpgs -- mostly the #worldbuilding aspect of them, DMing, very rarely playing. Been doing it for uhh 35 years now. The worldbuilding's been constant, the actual play much more intermittent. My current game's about eight sessions in with a bunch of nuggets, running #dnd 5.5. It's going pretty well.
Roughly equivalent to this is #meditation, #spirituality, and the #occult. I read a lot, I reflect a lot, sometimes I even do stuff, generally fairly ad hoc. I've been a #druid, a #christian, #asatru, various combinations of all three, now kinda doing my own thing.
Third is #cooking, though I don't do as much of that as I used to. I used to love meat and got very good at variously preparing it, then the wife went vegan and I discovered meat seems to tamper with my mojo so I don't eat much of it anymore and most of my cooking jutsu is moot.
Fourth is #reading in general, I suppose -- #speculativeFiction, generally, sometimes #romance, sometimes the happy union of the two. I'm not well-read, by any means, but I like it more than any other medium, when I have the brain for it. #Comics, too, especially #webcomics. Love 'em.
Fifth is #martialArts. I've studied, at various times, #karate, #taijutsu, #aikido, #savate, and #hema, though none to any great extent and none all that recently. I like to spar, and someday I'd like to pick up #judo.
Sixth is uhh well I want to pick up #crochet this year, maybe.
Also I sing sometimes.

I posted on Nextdoor and Facebook again in an attempt to recruit players for my #Pathfinder1e #Ustalav game.
I made contact with two interested parties, one of which is a married couple, so I might end-up with 6 players if I'm lucky. Fingers crossed!
I have some unpopular House Rules so I'm more likely to recruit players with little system experience and players with GM experience. Basically opposite ends of the spectrum.

This article is great. As someone that does a lot of improv comedy and RPGs I found it useful. In improve we pare down our character creation to a triangle with Move, Sound, Want. I use it in games all the time.
