One of my favourite things to do is to make jokes about my fatness that don't have me/my fatness as the punchline, because it subverts the expectation that fat people should be silent about our bodies.
Like, I commented on a post on Fetlife earlier today and the OP responded "thanks for weighing in". To which I replied "are you calling me fat?".
I mean, I thought it was hilarious.

currently reading "You Just Need to Lose Weight" and 19 Other Myths About Fat People by Aubrey Gordon (co-host of #MaintenancePhase), which states:
"In 2004, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published 'Actual Causes of Death in the United States, 2000,' the study that first trumpeted that some four hundred thousand Americans died each year simply from being fat."
I already have some idea of how this story will go, from listening to Maintenance Phase's episode on The French Paradox*, and my little goblin brain wants to publish a study of Actual Causes of Death that proves that some millions of Americans die each year "under mysterious circumstances"
* the TL;DR version is: "cause of death is very hard to actually determine and is influenced to a great degree by policies and how forms are designed"

A bunch of Fetlife groups I'm in have posted "happy 2024 what are your new goals and resolutions" type posts.. which, ok, fine. I don't do the thing, but some people do.
But pmuch EVERY. SINGLE. RESPONSE. is some form of extreme weight loss talk.

I need to start taking noods and lewds again.. when I used to take them regularly it did amazing things for my sense of self worth. It was really lovely to look at a picture of myself and actually LIKE it.

Last night we were watching American Ninja Warrior (lol don't judge me) and two commercials came on. One was for STD medicine, and one was for Peloton. There were beautiful fat women in both!
I was like, "Wait...they're saying she could have an STD? Because she had sex? With that cute skinny guy who seems super into her?"
"Wait, she's fat and exercising, and she's in gorgeous workout clothes and not sweats? As if she likes herself?"
It was...SO NICE! :D

I get pretty angry at the labels assigned to larger bodies, especially without our consent.
#BBW is one such label which is particularly problematic, and this is why.
