My current body mass index is 25.5. I was thinner during most of my adult life, but I put on some weight in recent years when I was primarily focused on surviving and raising our child rather than healthy eating and exercising.

If you'd have asked me a couple of years ago, I would have told you that people with a similar #BMI as I have now are chubby, on the verge of obesity.

When I look at myself in the mirror, I don't see myself as #fat. I'm wearing medium-size clothes (sometimes small). There is some belly fat that wasn't there before, but yeah, it's not like it's keeping me from anything. And if I am fat in fact? So what 🤷

So I had a distorted concept of body weight and body mass index (which is poorly correlated with health or anything) and a negative perception of fat people.

I would like to change some of my eating habits in the future. If I can find a way to make exercise fun, I might try that as well. But for now, this is my body and I still love it.

OVERWEIGHT includes a negative judgment. We don’t say “He’s OVERHEIGHT.”

OBESE is a medical term—and a pathologizing label. It has a history & its parameters have changed over time.

All of these words may be used or understood as epithets.

The terms #FatAcceptance, #Fatshion, #FatPolitics, #FatLiberation, etc. reclaim the word as neutral while highlighting that it’s not a neutral thing to be fat in this world.
