Co czeka EA po sprzedaży? Analitycy wieszczą zwolnienia i koniec ryzykownych gier, ale widzą też szanse

Informacja o planowanej sprzedaży Electronic Arts za 55 miliardów dolarów konsorcjum funduszy private equity zelektryzowała branżę.

Jak analizują eksperci na łamach serwisu Ars Technica, ten ruch całkowicie odmieni jednego z największych wydawców gier na świecie. Dla graczy może to oznaczać zarówno koniec ulubionych marek, jak i szansę na nowe, odważne projekty.

Cięcia kosztów i strach o BioWare

Głównym problemem, na który wskazują analitycy, jest gigantyczne zadłużenie w wysokości około 20 miliardów dolarów, które obciąży nowe, sprywatyzowane EA. Konieczność spłaty długu może zmusić firmę do drastycznych cięć. Eksperci przewidują zwolnienia, zamykanie studiów i sprzedaż mniej dochodowych marek.

Najbardziej zagrożone mają być studia niepracujące nad grami-usługami, takimi jak BioWare (Mass Effect), Codemasters (F1) czy nawet Respawn (Star Wars Jedi). EA może stać się jeszcze bardziej zachowawcze, skupiając się wyłącznie na corocznych seriach sportowych i mikrotransakcjach.

Szansa na kreatywną wolność?

Z drugiej strony, analitycy widzą też potencjalne plusy. Uwolnienie się od presji Wall Street i konieczności raportowania zysków co kwartał może dać nowemu EA większą swobodę.

Według ekspertów, firma mogłaby pozwolić sobie na bardziej długoterminowe planowanie i odważniejsze, kreatywne projekty, które nie muszą przynosić natychmiastowego zysku. To szansa na powrót do bycia „firmą produktową”, a nie tylko maszyną do generowania regularnych przychodów.

Obawy o cenzurę

Wielką niewiadomą jest rola Funduszu Inwestycji Publicznych Arabii Saudyjskiej, który jest częścią konsorcjum. Analitycy zwracają uwagę na dwa potencjalne problemy. 1: Perfect World International #PerfectWorld
I played this game religiously for the entirety of my time in high school. It was the place where I found my first real social group
2: #ConquerOnline
Is it good? No. Did I love it because it was kinda weird? Yes.
3: #FlyFF
I would not be alive had I not played this game. I mean that 100% seriously.
4: #Mabinogi
This game really is the only thing I regret about completely going off of Windows, as its not supported on Linux, even with Proton/WINE. This game will forever hold a special place in my heart.
5: #TheSims
The entire franchise. This game was a place where I could safely explore the queer side of myself when I didn't have others
6: #CrushCrush / #HushHush
I just love the IP. All of the girls are adorable, and I feel kinda fuzzy every time I play through it
7: #ChronoCross
My uncle gave me a copy of this game shortly before he passed away, and its always had a special place for me because of it
8: #Borderlands2
The first piece of media I really consumed that fed into the depraved humor that really has become a core part of me
9: #WurmOnline
It gave me an escape for when I was at one of my lowest recent points
10: #UnchartedWatersOnline
Much the same vain as Perfect World: A solid chunk of my friend group in college was through this game. I kind of wish I could find some of them again, because I do miss them.
