Somebody fucked up a certificate so now Sims 4 triggers Windows Security as "malware".
According to the Sims Team it might take days to fix.

The main issue still with #GamingOnLinux: 9/10 times "it just works". And really, it does! It's great!
But when it doesn't... Let's say I just lost 2 days of my live getting #TheSims4 to run on my #SteamDeck again due to it breaking on the latest EA app. Couldn't find a fix yet online, so had to test some stuff myself and come up with my own solution. Uploaded the whole procedure to #ProtonDB, so with the next content refresh it should be public.
But really, people who aren't as deep into it Linux and the technical side of gaming on it likely wouldn't have figured out how to make it run. My eventual fix made sense if you know how Wine and Linux work, it's not that complex once you got the answer. But for a random gamer who's not further into the topic (and just wants to play anyways)? A bit much to figure out from scratch...
Luckily it does get better at rapid pace the last few years, I haven't seen these kind of workarounds needed in ages (so don't take this post too discouraging). But it's a good reminder that these issues aren't gone yet, and will be a blockade (in bigger or smaller degree) for mainstream usage until they are.

it has some bugs, visual glitches & performance issues, but it has more features than cyberpunk at release (eg getting an new haircut)
overall a good experience (I am playing on a laptop on linux btw)
also: americans will use ANYTHING but the metric system (except paralives has that too)

How to Fix the Sims 4 Overlay Bug on Linux (without removing mods)
I run the Sims 4 through Wine with an executable script 'sims4'. Last week, I started getting a greyed out overlay on my main menu, preventing me from clicking anything and starting the game.
`widgets.Engagement.controls::InterstitialMessageDialog
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.` is the culprit.The common advice was to remove my mods (no thank you) or start it in offline mode. But using offline mode in the launcher didn't make a difference; maybe the game can still have cached account data, promo payloads, etc available to it?
Use firejail to enforce a real no network mode that avoids whatever code path triggers initialising the engagement/interstitial system.
So the command should be like:
`firejail --net=none wine start /unix "path_to_executable"` -

Now when I think about this... I kind of get to like #Sims4 being so full of painfully American stereotypes I know from reading a lot of novels. Hippies living in campers? Conspiracy theory freaks with weird machines on yards? Teenage werewolves occupying squats in abandoned factories? Cowboys and ranchers?
Several years ago I was very active in #writting communities in Polish group blogs. Mainly in fantasy settings, but there were many different genres. It had specific thrill - creating stories, not intended to have an end like novel, embedded with universe shared with other authors and their stories. Authors influences stories of others in subtle ways. Interactive living world shaping stories and being shaped by them.
Currently, after death of group blogging spheres, I couldn't find anything scratching that particular #storytelling itch. Writing short stories for competions - or even for myself - is not exactly the same.And I feel #TheSims4 with current features is another partial substitute for me. I love taking some of existing things, shaping them slightly more to my tastes and mixing it with my own original visions. Using existing aesthetics and atmosphere and expanding it. Creating many parallel stories in shared universe.
I have a lot of official DLCs and even more weird mods. I play with aging disabled globally to have full control on continuous story I want to create here. I try to catch some "vibe" and follow it. -
It is a bank holiday weekend so my wife is building houses and meddling with lives in Sims 4 and and I am building city blocks and utopias in Sim City 4
Can your wonderful AI bring our two games together so my wife's tormenting Sims can seek refuge in my Post Scarcity Future City?
No it cannot. It's just Fancy Autocomplete.
