I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

Using Home Assistant OS, I wired up Whisper for speech recognition, Piper for voice responses, and Ollama for the LLM brain — all running on my own machines, stitched together with the Wyoming protocol. I could literally talk to my smart home, and it talked back. All offline, all private.

Contemplating whether it's time to start moving my family server (email, blog, web) out of the U.S. It's currently hosted by Linode. It was built out incrementally by hand over years, so moving it would entail writing from scratch and testing a whole bunch of Ansible code, so there's some lead time involved in getting it right. I think I can't _quite_ justify the time investment yet, but hopefully I'll notice it's time to start before it's too late.

These little projects are some of my favorites. Especially when my wife finds me useful. I was learning some new deauth tools and forgot that I was deauthing devices on my homenetwork, so Home Assistant didn't trigger my heater in the greenhouse because the thermometer and power relay didn't communicate properly. Needless to say my wife was not happy that all her plants ended up spending two nights at around 35F. So I built this to alert us if the temp drops too low. It will email and text us every hour and it will beep and flash the LED every 2 minutes. Just in case it loses WiFi access... It'll also have battery backup.

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign, #DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!
I've also experimented with:
- Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
- Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.
I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄
