Wife's nephew came to visit with his family today. Brought the #recalbox joystick I made for him with a #rpi 3B+ almost 5 years ago. Was unplugged while on so I just had to run a fsck on the sd card. Now updating from recalbox 7 to 10. #retrogaming

@drajt I suppose I could stick a #RaspberryPi in the chain. Attach the kb to the #RPi (maybe via a converter, maybe directly to the GPIO pins), then have that pretend to be a USB keyboard talking to the KVM. Because obviously chucking a 64-bit supercomputer that basically comes free with a box of cornflakes (I so love living in the future!) into the mix will fix everything! It would at least be easier for me to debug.

Software is #MPD on #Debian on an #RPi 2. Soundcard is some cheap old usb Soundblaster, but using #lirc I can control MPD using its controller.
This all took some effort. 😌

Been working on a project, a #meshtastic #BBS that runs directly on a #ESP32 node without needing a #rpi zero running the BBS. I have an alpha up and running and added a daily Wordle game. it has bulletins, Email, and a neat QSL feature for radio nerds.

#meshcore has a "room" firmware with basic bulletin posting. This Does a lot more than that, almost as much as the major python BBS systems that need a raspberry pie to run.

There are quite a few oldschool Amiga OCS/ECS demos that will run as intended, perfectly, smoothly only on base Amiga 1000, 500, 2000 systems with 68000 CPU -- unaccelerated. One example is TBL's Eon (2019) -- an incredible demo.

I've encountered a few games that fall into this category also.

Will these run properly with 68000-emulator accelerators such as the PiStorm? It emulates the 68000, but can it do so with 100% never-failing, cycle-exact precision when operating as a base, unaccelerated 68000 at 7.16/7.09 MHz?

The demos I speak of fail to run or run visibly broken with most accelerators, including my A2620 (14.32MHz 68020).

Installing Espanso for Wayland

Espanso is a cross-platform text expander written in Rust. Follow these instructions to install Espanso 2.3.0 for Wayland on your Debian-based distribution.

Compiling from source

If you are installing on any platform other than amd64 or simply prefer compiling software from source, start at Step 1.

Using the Debian binary package

If you are installing on amd64 hardware and would like to use the binary package for installation, start at Step 7.

Step 1

Change the default shortcut for opening the search bar to resolve an existing conflict.

$ sed -i 's/search_shortcut: ALT+SPACE/search_shortcut: ALT+SHIFT+SPACE/' "$HOME/.config/espanso/config/default.yml"

Use [Alt + Shift + Space] to open the search bar.

Experimental support for Wayland

Espanso has some known limitations under Wayland. Most notably, “there is currently no support for App-specific configurations”.

ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY QUESTION

Can anyone here sanity-check the #electrical #power solution I've ended up planning for my next automated #insect monitoring tool?

This will be a unit running on mains power. It includes a #RaspberryPi 4B controller (also running a #camera and various sensors), along with a number of high-powered #LEDs (to attract insects and to illuminate photos).

The #RPi requires 5V supply and I am using an A009 BuckBlock to deliver constant current for the LEDs. This works optimally with a 24V supply.

The RPi will turn the lights on and off using a relay.

At present, I'm thinking that the best approach is to power the whole unit with a 24V AC-DC converter and then use a second 24V-5V converter to step down this DC for the RPi.

That means three power converters are required. In this diagram:

The cyan converter is for mains (ground is back through this converter, but the diagramming tool was not good for representing this).

The yellow converter steps down for the RPi power.

The pink converter delivers constant current for the lights.

Am I missing something? Can this be done better? Will I need additional capacitors to stabilise the RPi voltage when turning on the lights suddenly draws down an extra 27W, or should a decent step-down converter handle that?
