I needed 1, had to buy 250. 🤷
I suspect whatever caused this fuse to blow is still a problem and will lead to a re-cap project. This is my primary receiver and fills the house with music. It had a good run but now needs some care and feeding. #HomeAudio #realistic #ElectronicsRepair

Does anyone have an electronics repair shop they recommend, specifically for soldering work? I broke a shoulder button on my SteamDeck and I've tried to repair it myself but I certainly lack the skill and maybe the dexterity to get it done. I'm afraid to keep going and do more damage to it.
I'd love to pay someone local to give it a shot if anyone has recommendations. Ideally in #SouthJersey or #Philadelphia.

I've never thought much about this before, but I'm surprised there aren't people who terminate cables as a service. Bring them your coax, pick it up later with proper connectors installed properly. I'd pay for that.

Working thru a backlog of projects. This old turntable needed a new belt which arrived and installed no issues. I’m getting no audio. The cartridge coils test open. Safe to assume the cartridge is toast? I think I paid $5 for this years ago at a garage sale and only because it’s Realistic gear which I am overly fond of. #realistic #vintageaudio #radioshack #ElectronicsRepair

Maybe I've already replaced a #RaspberryPi5 CPU before.
But today was the first time I replaced a Secure Boot locked CPU on a Pi 5.
And that's a whole different story - after I replaced a CPU Pi blinked a 1-2 code - "SD card overcurrent detected". Weird.
I tried to restore #EEPROM from a Micro SD - it flashed 3-2 - "SPI EEPROM is write protected".
I soldered another CPU. Same.
I replaced #RP1. Same.
Turns out it was EEPROM.

Hi guys.
Have these chips on Orange Pi 5, but can’t find them neither in the schematic (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wsp-Q7IyG0Ky_W-z1n5oXcFG4oqIbtOb/view) nor by the chip markings.
Those are tiny bga chips marked as D25DH 6QR73 or D3FEH 68S53.
They are located under the CPU, so must be related.
I also noticed that these same chips on the same model of Orange Pi have different markings but in a similar fashion.
Thanks a lot - as always.

Estate sale digital camera on the bench tonight. I picked it up for $1 because it “didn’t work”. Battery terminals were severely corroded and found one of the button extensions broken inside. After some cleanup and a piece of strategically placed 3D printer filament - it works! #electronicsrepair #camerarepair

Something new on the bench - Raspberry Pi 400. This one had a broken micro SD card latch, so I had to replace the slot with a brand new one. Luckily I bought a few for a Jetson Nano back in a day and they are exactly the same ✅.
Then - as always - I ran a stress test and my god this thing has amazing cooling - that internal heatsink is the best mechanism I've ever seen on a Raspberry Pi - 40°C at max load. Wow 🤩.

Learning new stuff - programming ITE EC chip over the keyboard connector with #SVOD4 without needing to desolder the chip.
One thing I can tell you is you better use a microscope to make sure you’re picking the right ribbon cable and that you align it well while plugging.
Quite a fiddly thing to deal with but eventually I made it work.

Hello Fediverse friends.
This one is a bit embarrassing for me but I post my mistales as well as my wins.
A viewer sent me a Sega Game Gear as a parts-only donor. It had already been recapped, but it still wouldn’t power on.
Part 1 is teardown + diagnosis. I clean up old electrolyte, inspect the previous work, and start tracking the real fault. No miracle fix yet, but we do find a solid lead for Part 2? Maybe?
Watch: https://youtu.be/X4_mOQEw2ss
Thanks to @iFixit who very kindly sent me some new tools for the cabin.

Retooting is always appreciated (but never expected) :)

Recently got me a XPrinter XP-58 receipt printer for 7$. It was sold as broken. Turns out it has an unsoldered - not even torn or broken USB port and misaligned ribbon cable (as seen in this photo).
Five minute fix - good as new ✅.
