  1. 'consumers are using cleaner energy and bringing down their bills at a time when the cost of living is a constant concern...But such a massive, ungovernable influx of energy carries risks, too—the world’s power infrastructure was not designed for solar self-generation—and investment, pricing models, and even the security of supply could be affected as a result'

    Oil Things Must Pass
    ==================

    [Verse 1]
    We’re destroying Earth's natural greenery
No place left, for the kids to play
They choke on toxic fumes, while coughing
It doesn’t have to be this way.

    [Chorus]
    Oil things must pass
    Oil things must pass away

    [Verse 2]
    Our governments are always warring.
They say, 'Killing keeps gas price at bay!"
Poor people die. Rich men profit.
I just don’t believe what they say!

    [Chorus]
    Oil things must pass
    Oil things must pass away

    [Bridge]
    Oil things must pass
    No human beings can last
So we must switch to solar power now, without delay

    [Verse 3]
    Sunlight doesn’t cost a penny.
Solar batteries get recharged all day.
Planet Earth heated up, despite all warnings.
Let’s cool it, before it’s too late.

    [Chorus]
    Oil things must pass
    Oil things must pass away
    Oil things must pass
    Oil things must pass away

  22. So, Uber asked me if removing UberX (the standard option) would make me sad. They wanted to know if I'd choose a different option or leave the platform entirely.

In all honesty, that would allow only the newer, eco-friendly vehicles to run around, so that's something. The prices aren't any higher, especially if you choose the wait&save option.

The downside, from what I've noticed, is that (all???) EVs have ad displays in the back. Look, I want to do my part and reduce CO₂ emissions, but I absolutely detest ads. Plus, I'm paying for my ride. At least make them free, you know, like those awful mobile games that people play in the bathroom.

  25. This is an interesting article. Why? Because it goes beyond the normalized threadbare reporting we are subjected to from main stream media. And because the information imparted by the article is so… *refreshing* ?… due to its structure (the way it is written) and the information it reveals, both of which entice the reader to pay attention while reducing the temptation to *skim* the article — *skim reading* is a pathology thrust upon readers of social media platforms, it is highly infectious and to date there are no remedies (but maybe this article and the type of *journalism* it champions is the antidote).

The article **explains** (wooaah, that’s bold and inovative) that the #TomagoSmelter bail out isn’t, in fact, a run-of-the-mill govt *bail out*.

“…there is every chance that this arrangement will be cost-neutral over the decade, while at the same time turbocharging the energy transition and economic diversification of Australia’s most prominent industrial region.” That is the exiting part.

But there is a dependency and #RioTinto needs to stick to the commitment for a decade at least. “ For its part, Tomago has committed to investing a minimum of $1.1 billion in reducing energy usage and switching to renewables. Not only will closure be avoided, but there will be a value-add to the region.”

    And that #Corporation has a track record : accr.org.au/news/rio-tinto-cli

If it all works out as planned, this public funding/investment (not a bail out as such) will benefit all parties including the #HunterRegions and support the transition to #Renewables energy.

    we pick green energy

  32. ...on one part of the planet, it shines on another, which led Arthur C. Clarke to suggest that we build solar farms, and a global grid, which transmits electricity to the parts where it is night, in a phase shifted manner, without any need for batteries. Build this once, and we have enough electricity for the whole Earth, virtually forever, at minimal cost.

Of course, this would mean no oil & gas industry, and no oil wars, and cleaner air, and a greener Earth. 🌏

That would totally suck for the #OilAndGas industry, as well as the #DepartmentOfDefense , so of course they fight this idea tooth and nail.

  33. American Investors To Explore Mega Infrastructure, Energy Deals And Other Opportunities In The Philippines

Several business executives and investors from the United States are set to visit the Philippines next week to explore investment opportunities in the nation’s infrastructure sector, energy sector, and more, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. The American investors will engage with their Filipino counterparts during the planned 5-day trade mission.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

More than 25 American business executives and investors will visit the country next week for a business mission as the United States (US) seeks to deepen its economic ties with the Philippines, which recently secured upper-middle-income status.

In a statement, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said the US business delegation would mount a five-day trade mission across major economic areas in the Philippines from July 6 to 10.

The delegation includes business leaders and investors from the Northeast and Midwest regions of the US. The mission is organized by the DTI’s Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in New York and the Philippine Consulates General in New York and Chicago.

The DTI said the business mission aims to strengthen economic ties between the two longtime trade partners while also encouraging US companies to invest more in the country’s growing economy.

Based on the latest country income classifications of the World Bank, the Philippines has moved up from lower-middle-income to upper-middle-income status. This was based on the country’s gross national income (GNI) per capita estimate for 2025, which reached a record $4,850.

The DTI noted that the upcoming visit also comes at a time when the Philippines is actively positioning itself as a key partner for US companies looking to expand in Asia.

During the business mission, the US delegation will meet with Philippine government leaders and local business owners to explore business, tourism, and investment opportunities.

The US business leaders will also attend business meetings, informational briefings, and tours of key economic areas in Manila, Clark, Subic, and Corregidor.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you see a promising future between the United States and the Philippines when it comes to economics and investment under the leadership of US President Donald Trump? Are you convinced the corruption within the Philippines is no longer a turn-off for American investors?

  34. Two tonnes of thermally dense crushed soapstone is being used to store energy in a small municipality of southern Finland.

This installation can hold a week's worth of the town's green energy in winter - beating its constructor's expectations and allowing it to eliminate the need to purchase heating oil.

Will we see more of these types of systems being installed? I hope so!
